Responsibilities
- Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing teeth to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) using dental imaging equipment, ensuring accurate positioning and patient safety.
- Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions to inform treatment plans.
- Assist dentists during procedures through chairside assisting, ensuring all necessary tools and materials are prepared and sterilized according to infection prevention standards.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to promote lifelong dental health.
- Maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems) by documenting treatment details, medical terminology, and patient interactions in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Follow infection control protocols using aseptic techniques to prevent cross-contamination and ensure a safe clinical environment.
Requirements
- Valid state licensure as a Dental Hygienist with current certification to perform dental procedures.
- Proven experience in general dentistry or pediatric dentistry settings, with familiarity in pediatric dentistry preferred.
- Proficiency in dental software for charting, documentation review, and medical records management.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and dental equipment operation.
- Experience with four-handed dentistry techniques to optimize efficiency during patient care.
- Ability to accurately interpret dental X-ray images and perform basic medical assessments including vital signs measurement.
- Excellent communication skills for client interaction, patient education, and team collaboration while maintaining HIPAA compliance and confidentiality.
