Job Purpose and Reporting Structure:
Under the direction of Shift Supervision, the Pouch Operator is responsible for setting up and operating the pouch machine to create pouching bags from slit material while meeting delivery requirements and quality standards to customer specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Determine which jobs are to be run based on production release reports and customer delivery requirements. Review job information packets.
- Set up machine, ensuring proper operation. Bring rolls to machine, thread film, ensuring accurate machine settings, rewind, footage, cores and blade sizes.
- Observe flow of material through machine to detect irregular cutting and winding, ensuring specifications are correct.
- Ensure that all partial pallets, bags, and containers are available and accessible as well as having proper documentation such as part numbers, weights, and dates.
- Ensure that the machine is producing quality products by conducting periodic checks for output.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with customers, CSR’s, sales, scheduling, and plant staff related to pouching technology, capabilities, and processes as needed.
- Provide guidance to pouch packing personnel.
- Make certain all documentation and reporting is complete and accurate.
- Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
- Adhere to the GMP Policy.
Qualification Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 3 to 12 months of related experience in manufacturing or machine operation preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Basic math and and measurement skills (add, subtract, fractions, decimals, percentages).
- Ability to read and interpret work instructions and job specifications.
- Ability to write simple correspondence and effectively present information in one-on one and small group situations.
- Willingness to work in a physically demanding, fast-paced environment.
- Capable of lifting up to 100 pounds and standing for extended periods.
- Comfortable working near machinery and with chemicals in a loud production setting.
- Experience operating a pouch machine, forklift, hoists, or other material handling tools is a plus.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls. The employee frequently is required to walk and reach above shoulders. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or hear.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee occasionally works in high precarious places and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and to the risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
