Job Summary
The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office is seeking qualified candidates to join our Corrections Division as a Corrections Deputy. This position plays a vital role in maintaining the safety, security, and orderly operation of the Kendall County Jail. Candidates must complete the full testing process through the National Testing Network (NTN) and submit a Sheriff’s Office employment application to be considered.
Testing is open until 11:59 PM on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
Responsibilities
- Maintain safety and security within the Kendall County Jail
- Supervise and monitor individuals awaiting trial and those serving sentences
- Conduct inspections, searches, headcounts, and documentation
- Respond to emergencies and follow established policies and procedures
- Ensure a safe, secure, and humane environment for inmates and staff
- Complete required reports and maintain accurate records
- Work 10-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays, as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Citizenship: U.S. citizen or legally admitted resident with intent to become a citizen
- Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license; must be able to obtain an Illinois driver’s license upon hire
- Age: Minimum 21 years old (may apply at 20; must be 21 for certification)
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Background:
- No felony convictions
- No domestic violence convictions
- No misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude
- No dishonorable military discharge (RE-4 or equivalent)
- Vision: Correctable to 20/20; free from color/nigh blindness
- Residency: Must live within 25 miles of the Kendall County Public Safety Center within 1 year (waiver available)
Testing Requirements
All candidates must successfully complete every phase of the hiring process, including:
- Written Testing through National Testing Network (NTN)
- REACT Test
- PSSA
- PHQ
- Minimum passing score: 70% in each section
- Oral Interview
- Corrections Agility Test (C.A.T.)
- Sit & Reach: 14
- 1 Minute Sit-Ups: 24
- 1 Mile Run: 12 minutes or less
- Bench Press:
- 50% of body weight (female)
- 70% of body weight (male)
- Background investigation (includes polygraph)
- Psychological evaluation
- Full medical exam and drug screening
Applicants may submit a valid POWER Test (02/01/25–02/28/26) in place of the C.A.T. test.
Salary
- Starting Salary: $69,036.48
- After One Year: $78,767.07
- Salary and step increases are governed by the FOP Collective Bargaining Agreement (current contract expires 11/30/2028).
