Behavioral Health Consultant

Summary:

The Behavioral Health Consultant at KenCrest Clinical is an advocate for the needs of clients while navigating change systemically amongst family, coworkers, staff, and community members. The Behavioral Health Consultant provides support across a variety of locations depending upon the needs of each client. The Consultant is responsible for developing trauma-informed assessments, holistic and culturally-sensitive plans with systemically-minded interventions for the purpose of providing support to an entire team. The size of the consultant’s caseload is determined by the size of the area of which they are open to travel, their availability that matches current open cases, and the trust they build with the department leadership.

Essential Functions:

· Develop trauma-informed, culturally-sensitive, holistic, and systemically-minded assessment, plans, interventions, and trainings for the purpose of creating supportive and collaborative community, home and /or work environment for the clients.

· Knowledge of techniques needed to successfully complete effective Behavioral Health Supports that are NOT ABA-based, but are inclusive/affirming and incorporate a variety of fields and strategies.

· Ascribes to the philosophy of trauma-informed & healing centered strategies and approaches that go far beyond basic positive approaches mentality.

· Knowledge in the use of affirming and trauma-informed assessment scales and the concepts of subjective and objective data collection strategies to inform plans and intervention development.

· Knowledge in research techniques to explore possibilities beyond that which is considered “best practice” but meets the needs of many clients and their teams to effectively support them in a variety of environments.

· Communicate with team members regularly and respond to any promised follow-up request within a timely manner as trust is earned, not expected in the clinical world.

· Facilitate team meetings including trainings to make sure that everyone is following the plans as intended so the client feels supported by the entire team.

· Coordinate with Psychiatrist, therapists, and nursing or other health care professionals to track symptoms related to mental health diagnoses to measure the effectiveness of medications and minimize side effects; this includes completing the Team Review Form (sometimes called the 90-day forms) by filling out the behavioral health section.

· Organize and schedule time commitments to meet demands of the job. We are an affirming department and work to create structures and routines with you that work; however, each team has expectations for support that must be met. We will offer strategies and accommodations, while holding high clinical expectations of our staff.

· Meet with Director, Clinical Coordinator, and/or Senior Administrative Assistant as needed for highest level of service delivery

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in human service profession with 2 years of experience in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities and/or Autism. Experience with mental health/clinical services preferred.

· Copies of State, Child Abuse, & Federal clearances (within 1 year of application)

· Certifications from ODP/State mandated trainings online (6400 orientation as well as entire ODP-approved FBA & PBS course); all free online

· Proof of state mandated liability insurance - coverage parameters given after interview

· Any new state, county, or agency requirements as necessary

Physical Demands:

· Be capable of using one’s body in a variety of postures and positions for varied periods of time (kneeling, crouching, sitting, standing, reaching, walking quickly, reacting quickly on one’s feet) while working.

· Be capable of visual and auditory scanning of the work environment to monitor the facility to ensure safe and effective office operations.

Working Conditions:

· Mild to moderate noise level.

· Travel between work sites or into the community as necessary for the cases

· Ability to safely protect yourself by moving out of the way of someone experiencing a mental health crisis
