Summary: The Behavior & Sexuality Consultant facilitates positive change by assessing the need for services and developing strategies for individuals and teams as indicated in a variety of settings. The Consultant is responsible for developing trauma-informed assessments, holistic and culturally-sensitive plans and systemically-minded interventions for the purpose of providing support to clients and their teams. Responsible for the coordination of behavior services and/or sexuality education and supports for a specific caseload.

Key Relationships: Director of Behavioral Health Supports and Services, Clinical Coordinator, Supervisors/Managers, Direct-Care Staff, Program/Outcome Specialists, Directors/Assistant Directors, Supports Coordinators, and other team members or family.

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Essential Functions:

· Develop trauma-informed assessments, holistic & culturally-sensitive plans, and systemically-minded interventions for the purpose of creating a safe and contented community, home and /or work environment for the clients.

· Knowledge of techniques needed to successfully complete effective Behavioral and Sexuality Assessments that are trauma-informed and utilize Relational Theory (NEVER ABA), creative and inclusive/affirming interventions, and Behavior Plans that are systemically focused using clinical coaching techniques.

· Ascribes to the philosophy of trauma-informed & healing centered strategies and approaches that go far beyond basic positive approaches mentality.

· Knowledge in the use of affirming and trauma-informed assessment scales and the concepts of subjective and objective data collection strategies to inform plans and intervention development.

· Knowledge in research techniques to explore possibilities beyond that which is considered “best practice” but does not meet the needs of many clients and their teams to effectively support them in a variety of environments. Must be familiar with newest sexuality research and education.

· Communicate with team members regularly and respond to any promised follow-up request within a timely manner as trust is earned, not given without question in the clinical world.

· Facilitate team meetings including trainings to make sure that everyone is following the plans as intended so the client feels supported by the entire team.

· Coordinate with the Psychiatrist or other medication management team members as needed to ascertain the effectiveness of medications and minimize side effects; this includes completing the Team Review Form (sometimes called the 90-day forms) filling out the behavioral health section.

· Organize and schedule time commitments to meet demands of the job

· Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the department

· Comply with Federal, State, county and District policies, regulations and/or procedures

· Meet with Director, Clinical Coordinator, and/or Senior Administrative Assistant as needed for highest level of service delivery

Leader – Leader Responsibilities:

· Analyze current standards of practice and identify opportunities for improvement.

· Maintain current knowledge of developments in clinical strategies especially those supported by self-advocates.

· Advocate for enhancements to care for the clients.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors or Master’s Degree in human service profession with 2 years of experience in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities and/or Autism. Experience with mental health/clinical services preferred. May also have a specialization in human sexuality as part of Master’s or Doctoral program for those able to work with specialty case needs.

Must have or obtain before official start date:

· Driver’s license

· Reliable transportation

· Car insurance

· State, Child Abuse, & Federal clearances

· State mandated orientation trainings – list given after interview

· State mandated liability insurance - coverage parameters given after interview

· New state, county, and agency requirements as required – documented and given after interview

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Core Competencies:

· Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: analyzing data; effective listening; facilitating meetings; observational skills; planning; problem solving; record keeping; training; and office practices

· Perform multiple technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions.

· Knowledge and demonstration of DEBI/JEDI/cultural humility and trauma-informed practices.

· Master’s Degree, Doctoral Degree, or Graduate Level Certificate in Human Sexuality preferred.

Physical Demands:

· Be capable of using one’s body in a variety of postures and positions for varied periods of time (kneeling, crouching, sitting, standing, reaching, walking quickly, reacting quickly on one’s feet) while working.

· Be capable of visual and auditory scanning of the work environment to monitor the facility to ensure safe and effective office operations.

Working Conditions:

· Mild to moderate noise level.

· Travel between work sites or into the community as required
