Job Summary
The Radiology Technician conducts diagnostic imaging examinations on un'ina across the age span (infant through geriatric) in compliance with physician instructions and adhering to radiology protocols. The Technician specializes in using equipment and supplies necessary to demonstrate portions of the human body on X-ray for diagnostic purposes. The Radiology Technician is required to keep abreast of the latest imaging technologies, demonstrate good technical judgment in assessing image diagnostics, and work with providers and other staff to ensure quality radiological services and continuity of un'ina care. The Technician assists as needed with phlebotomy services across the life span, collect the appropriate specimen in a safe, accurate, and professional manner with the proper technique. The Technician assists the laboratory in performing CLIA waived medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. The Radiology Technician is required to work three (3) scheduled days per month and be available for additional short notice call in.
Essential Functions
- Performs radiographic examinations while adhering to radiology protocols
- Evaluates orders for appropriate medical history, researches orders for clarity while working with the provider
- Positions un'ina on exam table, move radiology equipment into position, adjust controls to set exposure factors, such as time and distance, to obtain optimum view of specific body area requested by medical provider
- Uses a beam-restrictive device to achieve collimation and ALARA principles to reduce exposure time, increase distance from the source, and shielding to minimize radiation exposure to un'ina and staff
- Explains radiologic procedures and safety protocols to un'ina to reduce anxiety and encourage cooperation
- Sends completed radiological images to Sectra for review by radiologist
- Cleans and sanitizes X-ray equipment and workspace
- Ensures the imaging equipment is in optimum operating order and inform director when it needs repair
- Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance

Qualifications
Education
- Associate's Degree in diagnostic radiography or related field or may be substituted with relevant education and experience
Experience
- One (1) years' experience performing x-ray images or obtained in clinical rotations through required education
Preferred
- Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities
License/Certification
- Registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (AART) Radiology Technologist certification required (ARRT)
- American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) membership or equivalent for continuing education
- Must have a valid Alaska State driver's license and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy, or obtain within 90 days of hire
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or able to obtain within three (3) months of hire
Special Skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, or obtain training within 90 days of hire

- In-depth knowledge of radiology protocols and imaging equipment
- Inventory management of radiology supplies to ensure adequate levels of inventory are maintained

- Knowledge and understanding of the developmental stages of patients throughout the continuum of life as they relate to the collection of specimens
- Aware of pre-analytic and analytic factors that influence laboratory test results
- Ability to work and communicate in a professional manner that promotes a harmonious work environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills, and attention to detail

This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act (ABCA) and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, (ICPA). ABCA and ICPA requirements apply and must be complied with at all times in order to remain in the position.
