Body Shop Painter (Automotive Refinish Technician)
Location: Ken Ganley Collision Center – Sandusky, OH
Employment Type: Full-Time | Hourly/Flat Rate (DOE)
About the Role
Ken Ganley Collision Center in Sandusky is growing and we’re adding a skilled Automotive Painter to our team. You’ll be responsible for OEM-quality refinish work—prepping, color-matching, painting, blending, and final finishing—while hitting cycle-time and quality targets. What You’ll Do
- Vehicle Refinish: Prep, mask, prime, seal, base, and clear per OEM/insurer guidelines; execute blends, spot & panel repair, and full refinish.
- Color Matching: Mix and tint waterborne/solvent systems; use spectrophotometer and variant decks to achieve an undetectable match.
- Quality Control: Inspect substrates, featheredge repairs, denib, polish/buff, and deliver a defect-free finish (no dirt, dieback, mottling, or halos).
- Process & Throughput: Coordinate with estimators and body techs; maintain proper booth loading, flash, and bake cycles to meet cycle-time/touch-time goals.
- Materials Management: Track and minimize refinish materials usage, reduce waste, and maintain accurate mix logs.
- Equipment Care: Keep the paint booth, guns, mixing room, and vacuum systems clean and compliant; perform basic maintenance and filter changes.
- Safety & Compliance: Follow EPA 6H, OSHA, and manufacturer safety standards; proper PPE, ventilation, and hazardous-waste handling.
- Documentation: Note refinish operations, blends, and any tint/time required in the RO for accurate billing and insurer compliance.
What You Bring
- Experience: 3 years professional refinish experience in a production collision center (dealer or high-volume preferred).
- Certifications (preferred): I-CAR Refinish/ProLevel, ASE B2, and/or paint system training (PPG, BASF, Axalta, Sherwin-Williams, etc.).
- Technical Skill: Mastery of HVLP setup, gun distance/speed, metallic control, blend edges, sealer choice, and clearcoat finish work.
- Systems Knowledge: Proficiency with waterborne basecoat systems and spectro/color software.
- Detail & Discipline: Clean tape lines, consistent film build, defect prevention, and strong booth etiquette.
- Team Mindset: Communicates well with estimators, parts, blueprinting, and detail teams to keep cars moving.
- Licenses: Valid driver’s license with acceptable record.

Physical Requirements
- Stand, kneel, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs; prolonged periods in PPE and paint booth environment.
Schedule & Pay
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, with occasional Saturdays as needed.
