Duties: Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled to skilled work pertaining to the maintenance and operation of all District structures, water and sewer facilities, equipment and vehicles. Position is full time with emergency response requirements.

Responsibilities: The listed examples of work are not intended to be all-inclusive. They establish a flexible, functional base from which the incumbent operates. They may also be modified with additions, deletions or changes required to obtain organizational goals and objectives

  • Performs routine, general maintenance in and around District office buildings, pump stations, and water storage facilities.
  • Performs water meter readings activities on a monthly basis for all residential and commercial customers and Denver Water master meters.
  • Operates and maintains water system facilities including isolation valves, fire hydrants, pressure reducing valves, air-vacuum valves, blow-off valves, and water meters.
  • Provides locates of underground District facilities in accordance with Colorado utility location statutes.
  • Conducts water system flushing operations to maintain water quality using blow-off valves and fire hydrants.
  • Conducts valve operations for contractors when needed.
  • Ensures safe working conditions and monitors all safety policies and practices.
  • Is on-call and responds to emergency repair work as required.
  • Contact and supervise the work of various contractors engaged in repair of water and sewer mains, sewer cleaning, electrical or mechanical repair or replacement in accordance with District standards.
  • Complete work orders relating to water and sewer service line inspections; water meter installation, repair or replacement; final and re-read water meters; water shut-off; water turn-on and customer requested services.
  • Maintain good public relations with the public, homeowners, contractors and others.
  • Performs related duties as assigned by the Field Operations Manager and/or District Manager

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
General knowledge of the standards, practices and methods of water and sewer line construction. General knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions relating to the operation and maintenance of water and sewer facilities and equipment. General knowledge of the materials, tools, equipment and methods used in maintaining/repairing water and sewer facilities. Thorough knowledge of District rules and regulations. General knowledge of District engineering specifications for the construction and repair of water and sewer facilities. Ability to use computers for various activities. Ability to supervise the work of independent contractors working for the District. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, maps and manuals. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees and general public.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Continuing education/training is highly desirable. Must accept and complete all required District training.

Experience: General working knowledge of water and wastewater systems

Special Requirements: Must possess valid Colorado drivers’ license. Must maintain any State required certification. Must be available to respond to emergency calls twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week. May require working weekends and holidays. On-call duty may be shared with other maintenance personnel. Performs work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Must be physically active to be able to lift heavy items when required.

Hiring Range: $21.00-$25.00/hr
