Role Description The Museum Attendant is a part-time, on-site position located at the Kemper Art Museum in St. Louis, MO. This role focuses on welcoming visitors, providing basic information about exhibitions and Museum amenities, and helping ensure a positive, inclusive experience for all guests. Day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring galleries to support artwork safety, enforcing Museum policies in a courteous manner, and assisting with visitor flow during busy periods and special events. The Museum Attendant may help with wayfinding, answering general questions, and coordinating with Museum staff when visitors require additional assistance or resources. Some evening and weekend hours may be required based on the Museum’s schedule and events.
Qualifications
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage respectfully and professionally with diverse visitors and colleagues.
- Clear verbal communication skills and comfort providing directions, answering questions, and conveying Museum policies.
- Ability to remain attentive and alert in gallery spaces, with a focus on visitor safety and care of artworks.
- Reliability in timekeeping, ability to follow procedures, and willingness to work a flexible part-time schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed.
- Interest in art, museums, or cultural institutions; prior experience in visitor services, hospitality, security, or education is beneficial.
- Capacity to stand or walk for extended periods and move between gallery spaces as required; reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed.
- Comfort working in a team environment and collaborating with Museum staff and campus partners.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college-level coursework or experience in art, art history, or related fields is a plus.
Expected to start the week of Aug 9th prior to the museum reopening on August 15, 2026.
