Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Prepares legal documents such as pleadings, affidavits, motions, orders, answers, briefs, memoranda, correspondence, and other documents for review, approval, and use by attorney.
- Investigates facts and law of case to determine causes of action and to prepare case accordingly.
- Calculates statutorily or court-imposed deadline and ensures that all deadlines are met.
- Maintains calendar with applicable case dates.
- Acts as liaison between disputing parties and Court staff.
- Prepares requests or subpoenas and/or necessary documents depending upon the type of case.
- Organizes and analyzes document information, may include preparation of database.
- Prepares drafts of discovery and document production in response to discovery requests or prepares data for attorney’s use in preparing discovery responses.
- Coordinates scheduling of depositions and prepares drafts of notices of same.
- Summarizes depositions and/or medical records.
- Prepares witness binders.
- Prepares background searches on individuals for various reasons.
- Assists with trial preparation, including witness lists, exhibits and trial binders.
- Maintains client contact in a professional demeanor.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Paralegal certification conferred by TBLS, NALA OR NFPA; a bachelor's degree with a minimum of 1 year paralegal experience performing substantive legal work under the direct supervision of a duly licensed attorney; certificate of completion from an ABA-approved program of education and training for paralegals; certificate of completion from a paralegal program administered by any college or university accredited or approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordination Board or its equivalent in another state, or a minimum of five years’ previous paralegal work experience performing substantive legal work under the direct supervision of a duly licensed attorney.
- Must demonstrate close attention to detail.
- Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gather and analyze information skillfully.
- Must focus on solving conflict and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to write clearly and informatively and read and interpret written information.
- Balances team and individual responsibilities; contributes to building a positive team spirit.
- Must possess the ability to follow through on commitments; demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness; look for ways to improve and promote quality of legal services to the client.
- Ability to be consistently at work and on time.
- Must commit to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals.
- Normal, corrective vision range; ability to see color and to distinguish letters, numbers and symbols.
- Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear. Occasionally required to bend, reach, squat, and kneel.
- Ability to reach with hands and arms.
