Supplier Quality engineer will be responsible for managing supplier programs for manufacturing, packaging, and other operational processes, as well as ensuring that quality programs are in compliance with regulatory requirements. Also, to be part of the problem-solving teams. This will include process auditing, product quality objectives and other activities related to the manufacturing process. The goal of this position assess quality and ensure all products are free from defects and in compliance with engineering and manufacturing specifications and government standards.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Monitor current supplier quality performance through Supplier Score cards and other process.
  • Managing the SCAR’s program which includes issuing SCARs and ensuring that the SCAR’s are returned, completed correctly, and validated.
  • Coordinate between engineering, production personnel, and Quality Engineer to solve production quality issues created by the Supplier.
  • Maintaining constant communication with supplier to ensure all quality requirements are being meet. Example: Heat Cert, DoC, packaging standard.
  • Review new change to current approved part (requested internal / external).
  • Requesting, monitoring, and approving new KPAP’s on new revision design on a part or new part number to the current approved supplier.
  • Engaging with suppliers and Supply Chain to help correct supplier behavior if possible and if not bring it to upper management attention to start switching to 2nd supplier for that part.
  • Coordinate with Design engineering about the new product and new components.
  • Coordinate with Quality Engineer to ensure if the customer needs to be notified on new part design change.
  • Coordinate with Supply Chain (local and/or global) & Engineer on new component supplier qualifications and any new supplier approval.
  • Manage the New Supplier approval process according to the QMS.
  • Ensure that supplier KPAP’s documents on new part or revised parts are submitted, evaluated, validated, and approved before approval is given.
  • Ensure QMS documents reflect the New Supplier or new parts reflects the new supplier part requirements.
  • Questioning the nature of defects while providing future solutions.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements (knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

  • Be able to read engineering drawings and good knowledge of GD&T.
  • Be able to use different tools from the Quality toolbox to solve problems.
  • Capacity to work independently from general supervision (must be self-motivated once given direction/guidance).
  • Ability to communicate with oral and written communication effectively with all levels of personnel and management, both internal and external in a manner that creates cooperation and one team mentality.
  • Be able to perform inspections using common measuring equipment and devices, such as gauges, micrometers, and other measure equipment.
  • Exhibit good computer skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint and ability to process numbers quickly to produce charts or other documents.
  • Must be able to prepare and maintain controlled documents for the QMS.
  • Be able to deal with multiple changes and respond quickly to a fast-paced environment.
  • Perform duties in an assertive, hands-on manner, with good attention to detail.
  • Good Project/Time Management Skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to perform multiple tasks and obtain results working within strict time frames.
  • Exposure to a metal fabrication and welding operation is a plus.
  • Must possess good analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Shall possess a basic understanding of statistical concepts.
  • The ability to be a fast learner with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must exhibit good interpersonal skills and promote and be a “Team” player.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (required Levels)

  • Must have three to five (3-5) years of experience in an ISO 9001 or IATAF 16949 manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent discipline or equivalent work experience
