R&D Technician:
The R&D Technician provides essential technical contributions to the R&D team by supporting complex experimental plans and generating reliable data for new product development activities. This role directly enables the commercialization of new sealant products in the Building & Infrastructure market through the preparation and testing of formulations using a variety of industry-standard methods. The R&D Technician performs routine tasks and procedures under moderate supervision, following established work processes and standard operating procedures to ensure safe and consistent lab execution. Working collaboratively with scientists and engineers, the R&D Technician is responsible for maintaining safe lab operations and accurately documenting experimental data.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties, projects, tasks, and activities you would be responsible for in this role.
- Safely and consistently execute high-volume, repetitive experimental plans to support the development, screening, and commercialization of new products.
- Collaborate with the team to plan and manage the calendar for complex, multi-week experiments with defined time points.
- Prepare formulations by weighing and combining pre-defined components using manual or mechanical mixing methods.
- Down-package liquid or solid materials from bulk containers into portable packaging using manual or pneumatic tools.
- Create cured samples using drawdown bars or cartridge dispensers, and prepare multi-layer samples with substrates such as concrete, metal, glass, or fabric.
- Perform routine chemical and mechanical testing following standard operating procedures. Common test methods include cure rate, viscosity, tensile strength, adhesion, flexibility, and color.
- Accurately and reliably record readings and observations using relevant equipment and instruments.
- Maintain inventory of lab supplies, chemicals, and personal protective equipment.
- Follow standard procedures for handling and disposing of waste materials generated from experimental activities.
- Promptly and effectively communicate issues to the Technology Leader or lead scientists to enable or accelerate problem resolution.
- Actively participate in team meetings to address safety, process improvements, problem-solving, and other workgroup, departmental, or functional topics.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post secondary education with a minimum of 20 hrs. in science related courses relative work experience required (Local requirements may vary).
- A minimum of an Associates degree in a science related discipline Military Degree Equivalency (MDE) and 1 year of relevant work experience or high school diploma GED and 3 years of relevant work experience.
