Cost Estimator

ESTIMATOR - ROANOKE, VA

Targeting $60,000 Annually (negotiable)

Responsibilities:

The Estimator prepares bids and written proposals based upon specifications provided directly by the customer and/or from the Business Development Managers. This position requires the ability to handle multiple tasks to meet customer-mandated time schedules.

• Assists in the bids and proposals process to estimate costs and prepares detailed written proposals and compliance matrices.
• Determines material quantities and labor required for total job cost. This is accomplished using tables and data established within the department and obtaining quotations from suppliers and/or subcontractors.
• Works with Purchasing to maintain accurate material costs on the shelter bid forms.
• Works with Human Resources to maintain accurate labor costs on the shelter bid summary sheet.
• Assists the Business Development Managers with follow-ups by phone on previous quotations submitted to the customer.
• Checks and confirms that customer specifications and purchase orders are in acknowledgement of written proposals.
• Performs other tasks as required from the Bids and Proposals Manager.
• Must have excellent written and organizational skills.
• Must have the ability to multi-task.
• Must have the ability to schedule workload to meet customer mandated deadlines.
• Must have a high degree of professionalism and the ability to hold confidential information.
• Knowledge of construction and/or electrical experience

Requirements:

• Education: 1 year certificate or Associate’s degree (A.A.) from a college or technical school.
• Experience: 3-5 years’ experience.
• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to coordinate a high level of activity under a variety of conditions and constraints.
• Overall knowledge of construction and/or power distribution preferred.
• Basic knowledge of algebra and geometry and mathematical formulas.
