The individual will work with limited supervision, provide guidance to junior team members, and interface regularly with production, facilities, and quality functions.
Essential Functions
- Purchase a wide variety of items and services, verify authorizations and account numbers, process paperwork, and expedite as necessary.
- Ensure best price, quality, and delivery for all MRO purchases.
- Maintain compliance with the Approved Supplier List by following internal procedures.
- Use the MRP system to generate purchase orders for inventory items, complete purchasing functions including expediting, returns to vendor, obtaining quotes, and supplier sourcing.
- Utilize standard contract templates for sourcing.
- Develop and sustain good supplier relationships.
- Plan, schedule, track, and expedite materials through the system.
- Maintain minimum stock levels and generate reorder lists to ensure continuous production.
- Read and use bills of materials, job numbers, and routing stages for material availability and production planning.
- Maintain master materials plan in line with the production schedule and support manufacturing campaigns.
- Interface with production, quality control, and facilities teams for material planning and usage.
- Ensure effective communication with the warehouse for proper inventory levels.
- Provide materials orientation and mentor new/junior purchasing employees.
- Lead or participate in strategic sourcing projects and process improvement initiatives for cost, quality, and efficiency.
- Perform all job duties in a compliant and ethical manner, upholding all applicable rules and regulations.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
- Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, pull, lift, finger, and grasp.
- Frequent movement of wrists, hands, and fingers; visual acuity for reading and analysis.
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs occasionally and 10 lbs frequently.
- Will primarily work seated, with occasional walking/standing.
- Will operate in varied conditions, including narrow aisles and temperature changes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training and experience.
- 5 years of experience in materials, purchasing, planning, inventory, or production control.
- Certified Purchasing Manager or APICS Certification preferred.
- Experience with cost/value analysis.
- SAP experience highly preferred (MM, PP, FI/CO modules).
- Sourcing and procurement (P2P) experience required.
- Previous work in biotech or pharmaceutical industries a plus.
- Strong working knowledge of MRP systems, inventory, word processing, and database applications.
- Thorough understanding of sourcing processes; proven supplier management abilities.
- Detail-oriented with organization, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and lead/mentor junior team members.
- Knowledge of cGMP, ISO, and/or FDA requirements a plus.
- Capable of developing action plans and meeting targets in a fast-paced environment.
