Laboratory Technician – Chemistry

Location: Durham, NC

Pay: $23–$27/hour

Shift: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:30 PM

Employment Type: Temp-to-Hire

Kelly Science is seeking a Laboratory Technician for a growing company in the Durham area. This role is ideal for candidates with hands-on chemistry lab experience who are excited to contribute to product development, quality control, and analytical testing in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform chemical extractions, distillations, separations, and related laboratory techniques using equipment such as rotary evaporators, chromatography columns, and other analytical tools.
• Conduct quality control testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products using instruments such as pH meters, Karl Fischer titrators, density meters, refractometers, and gas chromatographs (GC).
• Support method development and troubleshooting for GC analysis.
• Assist in scaling up new product formulations from development through pilot trials and production.
• Prepare sample blends for customers, internal leads, and third-party laboratories.
• Write and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and product specifications.
• Collaborate with R&D to develop or modify formulations to match desired product profiles or flavor targets.
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
• Minimum of 2 years of GMP laboratory experience required; experience in food, beverage, or ingredient testing is highly desirable.
• 3–5 years of hands-on experience in a chemistry-based laboratory.
• Prior experience with chemical separations, extractions, and distillations strongly preferred.
• Must be self-motivated, organized, and capable of working independently in a deadline-driven environment.
