- 6 month contract. Temp only

Job Description
- Use of proper handling procedures and aseptic technique
- Assists with the setup, scheduling, preparation, and execution of complex studies or procedures.
- Produces accurate, traceable, defendable results on time and under GLP’s conditions
- Ability to work with and maintain a variety of organisms, including pathogens and spore crops
- Assists Microbiologist in conducting experiments
- May conduct experiments and studies involving Clostridium botulinum
- Performs routine and non-routine tasks under general supervision, which results in supervisor’s and client’s satisfaction. These may include but are not limited to:
- Microbial transfers using aseptic techniques
- Microbial identification and enumeration techniques
- Accurate preparation of media and reagents
- Pouring plates, dilutions, and pipetting
- Microscopic observations: direct microscopic counts, gram stains, and wet mounts
- Operate necessary equipment as required in assigned projects
- Maintain instruments and equipment so that they are continuously in good working order
- Accurately prepare media
- Identify and communicate equipment and facility improvement options/issues to supervisor
- Maintains a safe and orderly work environment
- Maintains good working communications with all staff
- Follow appropriate SOP’s and protocols as instructed by supervisor
- Maintains laboratory and experimental records
- Work as a team with all staff to accomplish position and business objectives
- Other tasks as assigned
Mandatory Skills
To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, or ability required. • Associate’s degree in a scientific discipline (Bachelor's preferred)
• 4 years of food microbiology laboratory experience
• Demonstrated proficiency in independently performing routine and complex microbiological analyses
• Experience training or mentoring laboratory staff
• Ability to troubleshoot laboratory methods, equipment, and nonconforming results
• Strong documentation, organization, and communication skills.
• Overtime, weekend and holiday work as required
Desired Skills
• Strong understanding of food microbiology principles and aseptic laboratory techniques
• Knowledge of FDA, USDA, AOAC, BAM, and/or FDA Bacteriological Analytical Manual methodologies is preferred
• Ability to troubleshoot laboratory procedures and instrumentation
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced laboratory
• Ability to train and mentor laboratory personnel
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
