Overview
This is a hybrid role in which the incumbent will have daily duties as Pipe Yard Laborer when he is not delivering material as a Truck Driver. The percentage of time spent as a Yard/Warehouse Laborer will vary daily, weekly based upon the amount of deliveries, truck driving needed on a daily, weekly basis.
Yard/Warehouse Laborer performs various duties related to pulling, moving and staging orders for transportation. The incumbent will drive a forklift along with other industrial equipment to pull orders for staging or transportation along with loading and unloading incoming and outgoing material. Additionally, the incumbent will cut, groove, and thread material as needed, The incumbent will greet drivers and assist them in the Will-Call process for loading and unloading. The Yard/Warehouse Laborer will enter data and participate in the Quality Control process for material.
Truck Driver will provide high quality logistics transportation for pipe products in a way that ensures safe and proper delivery to their destination. The incumbent will be adept in operating heavy vehicles, ensuring proper load distribution, navigating across routes, and dealing with challenging loads. Yard Laborer and Truck Driver Duties
- Pull/tally/stage orders, load and unload inbound and outbound shipments.
- Assist with will call customers and process required paperwork.
- Ensure the accuracy of the Quality Control (QC) process on all items to be shipped and/or received.
- Maintain open communication with and report to Yard Lead.
- Check all load-related documentation for completeness and accuracy.·
- Inspect loads to ensure that cargo is secure.
- Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
- Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required.
- Maintain logs of working hours or of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations.
- Read bills of lading to determine assignment details.
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
- Couple or uncouple trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connecting or disconnecting air or electrical lines, or manipulating fifth-wheel locks.
- Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
- Drive trucks with capacities greater than 13 tons, including tractor-trailer combinations, to transport and deliver products or other materials.
- Check conditions of trailers after contents have been unloaded to ensure that there has been no damage.
- Load or unload trucks or help others with loading or unloading, using special loading-related equipment or other equipment as necessary.
- Remove debris from loaded trailers.
- Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers.
- Inventory and inspect goods to be moved to determine quantities and conditions.
- Assist with scheduled and cycle counts as requested.
- Assist with loading and unloading materials as needed.
- Assist with picking orders and other warehouse related duties as requested.
- Consistently display regular and timely attendance on an on-going basis.
- Exhibit safe working habits and safe work behaviors to avoid near-misses, incidents, and accidents on an on-going basis.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Forklift Certified
- Basic Math skills
- Ability to multi-task, manage time and workload efficiently
- Adaptable to most work environments and multi-cultural environments.
- Traffic laws/ DOT regulations/ driving knowledge
- Ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly throughout day
- Able to pass random drug tests
- Clean driving record
- No DUI/DWI convictions in the past seven years
- Listening and verbal communication skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Certificate from accredited CDL School
- At least 3 years over the road driving experience.
- Traffic laws/DOT regulations/driving knowledge
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position requires the individual to wear and work in personal protective equipment. This position requires that the individual can lift a minimum of 50lbs. and can maneuver large, cumbersome equipment. Required to stand, walk and sit; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, and crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Pay: $26.00 - $28.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
