Job purpose
The Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Kentucky maintenance facility. This position ensures that repairs, preventive maintenance, and shop activities are completed safely, efficiently, accurately, and cost-effectively. The supervisor leads technicians and service personnel, manages repair order quality, maintains inventory control, coordinates with vendors and operations, and ensures compliance with company policies and applicable DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and safety regulations.
Duties and responsibilities
- Coordinate daily repair schedules with Dispatch and Operations.
- Assign repair work to technicians based on workload and shop priorities.
- Ensure equipment, tools, parts, and resources are available to complete repairs efficiently.
- Monitor equipment downtime and communicate repair status.
- Assist technicians with troubleshooting complex mechanical and diagnostic issues as needed.
- Determine when repairs should be completed in-house or outsourced in coordination with the Fleet Maintenance Manager.
- Review repair orders for completeness and accuracy before closing.
- Verify labor entries, parts, outside services, coding, comments, and supporting documentation.
- Ensure repair orders comply with company procedures and documentation standards.
- Monitor repeat repairs and report recurring issues.
- Maintain shop inventory within established limits.
- Perform routine cycle counts and maintain inventory accuracy.
- Monitor inventory usage and report discrepancies.
- Maintain an organized and clean parts storage area.
- Coordinate with outside vendors for estimates, repairs, and warranty work.
- Review repair estimates for completeness before submitting for approval.
- Monitor outsourced repairs and communicate status updates.
- Assist with warranty documentation and recovery opportunities.
- Promote and enforce safe work practices throughout the shop.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and OSHA-compliant work environment.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, CSA, and company maintenance standards.
- Report unsafe conditions, accidents, and equipment concerns promptly.
- Maintain regular communication with the Fleet Maintenance Manager, Dispatch, Operations, and fellow shop personnel.
- Provide repair status updates and communicate delays or issues affecting equipment availability.
- Support continuous improvement efforts that increase efficiency and repair quality.
- Stay current on industry technology, maintenance procedures, and diagnostic equipment.

Qualifications
- 5 proven management experience with 15 staff
- 5 years of Leadership experience
- Software experience/computer technical expertise
- 3-5 years heavy duty shop experience
- 5 years’ experience in trucking industry
- Valid CDL driver’s license
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
- Must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test and agree to companies drug free workplace policies.
