Key Responsibilities
- Surface Preparation: Set up, operate, and maintain sandblasting/abrasive blasting equipment to clean and prepare surfaces according to project specifications.
- Equipment Maintenance: Inspect blasting guns, nozzles, hoses, and abrasive media levels daily. Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot minor equipment issues.
- Material Handling: Load and unload parts or structures into blasting booths or designated areas manually or using forklifts/hoists.
- Quality Control: Inspect finished surfaces to ensure all rust, scale, and debris have been completely removed and that the desired profile/texture is achieved.
- Safety Compliance: Strictly adhere to all safety protocols, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as heavy-duty blasting suits, gloves, and supplied-air respirators (blast hoods).
- Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and organized work area, properly disposing of spent abrasive media and hazardous waste according to environmental regulations.
Skills and Qualifications
- Experience: 1–3 years of experience as a sandblaster or in a similar industrial surface-preparation role is preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with different types of abrasive media (e.g., steel grit, glass bead, aluminum oxide, walnut shells) and their specific applications.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and work in physically demanding, hot, dusty, or noisy environments.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to spot minor surface imperfections and understand technical blueprints or work orders.
- Certifications (Plus): Forklift certification or OSHA safety training is highly desirable.
