Position Overview:

The Primary Responsibility Of The Adjunct Faculty Member Is Teaching. We Are Seeking Adjunct Instructors To Teach The Following Course At Keck Graduate Institute (KGI)

ENG 5160 Introduction to Bioprocessing (Fall semester, 1.5 credits)

Course Description

Bioprocessing is the application of biological systems and organisms by bioengineers and scientists to achieve research, industrial, and healthcare objectives. Within the healthcare industry, bioprocessing plays a critical role in translating life science discoveries into viable healthcare treatments and driving advancements in biopharmaceuticals, vaccines, and cell and gene therapies. This course provides a foundational understanding of biotechnology, with a particular focus on the Biopharmaceutical industry, and introduces the operations and principles employed by bioprocess engineers. Students will explore the scientific, business, and practical aspects of biomanufacturing, gain insights into the biomanufacturing landscape, and develop the skills necessary to contribute to the successful development and commercialization of biopharmaceuticals.

The successful candidate must share in the mission of KGI and the Henry E. Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences Programs. The Adjunct Faculty member reports directly to the Dean of the Henry E. Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences and works collaboratively with the Program Directors and other faculty.

Located in beautiful Claremont, California, Keck Graduate Institute is a member of the prestigious Claremont Colleges, a consortium of five undergraduate liberal arts colleges, two graduate institutions, and The Claremont Colleges Services, which provide shared institutional support services.

Education And Experience

A minimum of a Master’s degree in a related field. A doctoral degree is strongly preferred. A minimum of 2 years of teaching experience. Prior experience in teaching for active learning preferred. Experience with the Canvas learning management system is a plus.

  • Provides high-quality student instruction
  • Evaluates student performance (e.g., written assignments, examinations, in-class activities);

  • Other duties as assigned.

Hours, Classification, And Status

This is a part-time, exempt, adjunct faculty position and is not eligible for benefits.

Schedules will vary depending on course assignments and the needs of the department or the Institute.

The base salary range for this position is $2,500 - $15,000 per semester, depending on credits per course.

Physical And Mental Requirements

Ability to maintain good concentration level while dealing with interruptions; attention to details with emphasis on accuracy; capable of giving, receiving, and analyzing information, formulating work plans, and articulating goals and action plans. Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time. Standing for extended periods of time. Reaching and extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than the whole hand(s), or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard. Communication skills using the spoken word. Ability to see within normal parameters. Ability to hear within normal parameters. Ability to bend and stoop, for example, to file. Ability to move about. Ability to lift and carry short distances up to 20 lbs., for example to lift or move office supplies, files, books and packages.

Ability to travel locally as needed to meet business requirements, which may include driving or other modes of transportation. Occasionally, will be required to stand for prolonged periods of time at activities/events on and off-campus.
