Program Specialist Kearney Housing Agency
About the Role
We’re looking for a detail-oriented and people-focused Program Specialist to support our Housing Choice Voucher program and other KHA initiatives. This role is hands-on, working directly with applicants, tenants, and landlords to ensure fair, efficient, and compliant housing services.
What You’ll Do
- Manage and maintain program waitlists in line with HUD regulations
- Interview and screen applicants, verify eligibility, send verifications, and guide them through the leasing process
- Conduct inspections to ensure units meet HUD standards
- Process annual and interim recertifications, including rent adjustments
- Prepare reports and maintain accurate tenant files
- Collaborate with Family Self-Sufficiency staff to connect residents with supportive services
- Stay current on HUD policies, fair housing laws, and program updates and comply with all Federal, State and local nondiscrimination laws
What We’re Looking For
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Excellent communication—both written and verbal—with a customer service mindset
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity
- Comfortable using computers and housing management software
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally
- High school diploma required; housing program experience preferred
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are a plus

This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position reporting to the Program Supervisor. Some travel, training, and occasional overtime may be required. Work involves regular computer use and administrative tasks, along with some walking, standing, and driving. The role may occasionally require lifting up to 30–50 pounds.
