What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sterilization/Instrument Decontamination Technician position at KEARNEY EYE SURGICAL CENTER?

Join our Ophthalmology Surgical Center as a surgical equipment sterilizer to help our doctors and nurses in rendering quality care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. No weekends and no holidays required. We will train the right candidate! This position is part-time hours per week. We are looking for energetic and fast-paced individuals that are looking for a long-term career in the medical field.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. On the job training will be offered. Education of instruments and sterilization process will occur during an orientation period.
3. BLS certification not required on hire.

KEY DUTIES:
General:
a. Assures the correct equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and in working order, for each case.
- Assures all equipment is functioning before use and removes any malfunctioning equipment. Reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel.
d. Creates and updates preference cards as surgeon preferences change.
e. Communicates effectively with staff in decontamination or sterilization roles.
f. Cleans and handles surgical instruments per facility policy.
g. Cleans all equipment and surfaces after each patient according to company policy.
h. Handles patient specimens per policy.
i. Assists with maintaining adequate inventory of supplies.
j. Performs other tasks and duties which are within their legal limitations as directed by management.
k. Scrubs hands and arms, dries and dons sterile gown and gloves according to company policy.
l. Sets up sterile operating field with instruments and supplies necessary for that particular procedure; arranges instruments, sutures, drapes and supplies per company policy and surgeon preference.
m. Observes strict aseptic technique throughout the entire procedure and reports breaks in technique to the circulating nurse and the surgeon.
n. Dresses surgeon in sterile gowns and gloves.
o. Assists with draping the operative site.
p. Passes instruments, supplies and sutures to the surgeon as needed and in such a manner so that their attention is not diverted from the operative field.
q. Knows the name and function of each instrument.
r. Pays strict attention to the work of the operating team and anticipates their needs.
s. Keeps sterile tables neat and orderly.
t. Sees that all instruments, needles, sponges and other supplies are removed from the operative field.
v. Maintains instruments for surgeon at all times. Performs counts per policy.
w. Isolates "dirty" or contaminated instruments and supplies to minimize the spread of infection.
x. Assists with cleaning and restocking room at completion of assignment.

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
