Job Title: Environmental Services Assistant Supervisor
Department: Environmental Services
Reports To: Director of Environmental Services
Essential Job Functions Duties and Responsibilities
Perform daily cleaning tasks of the facility including the hospital, clinic, public patient areas, and office areas
- Understand daily cleaning tasks, know where all environmental services supplies are located, and how to correctly use them.
- Understand and carry out correct use of all chemicals.
- Ensure all areas of the facility, (including but not limited to: corners, ceilings, floors, walls, vents, mirrors, cubical curtains, shades, furnishings, restrooms, office, patient rooms, clinic rooms, OR, ER and halls), are dust free, clean and sanitized.
- Keep all floors clean and in good conditions, may include; sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, vacuuming and shampooing.
- Keep all soap and paper towel dispensers clean, sanitized and stocked.
- Keep all utility and store rooms clean, stocked and organized.
- Make sure all carts are cleaned and supplies are stocked and ready for the next day before leaving at the end of the day
Complete all work lists daily, weekly, and monthly
- Follow proper procedure while completing all work assignments and paperwork.
- Job and corresponding paperwork must be completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Ensure all paperwork is turned in when it is due.
- Understand when and how to correctly submit work orders for any repairs needed
Use all housekeeping equipment properly
- Understand how to correctly use all housekeeping equipment, including vacuums, shampooers, microfiber moping system, nano edge, walk behind floor scrubber, buffers, zamboni, etc.
- Follow manufacturer recommendations and facility procedure when using all equipment.
- Clean all equipment as scheduled along with as needed to insure it is clean and in good working order. Report any issues with equipment to the Director of Environmental Services as soon as possible.
- Sanitize all equipment used for isolation or spills immediately after use.
Laundry Responsibilities
- Understand how to correctly use all laundry equipment, including scale, washers, dryers, etc.
- Follow correct procedure when picking up soiled linens and delivering clean linens to all areas of the facility.
- Accurately sort and weigh linen and right the weight down to the appropriate department.
- Treat soiled linens and wash and dry linens according to proper procedure.
- Remove all stained and worn-out linens from inventory and document removal.
- Get new laundry out of the storeroom as necessary to maintain an adequate supply. Correctly document what new laundry is gotten out.
Handle hazardous materials
- Understand how to properly handle bio-hazardous waste.
- Correctly remove and handle all biohazard materials.
- Have an understanding of chemical management and how to properly mix, label, and store chemicals and utilize the Chemical Management website for compliance
Follow all regulations, policies, and procedures
- Understand and follow facility, state, and federal regulations, ensuring all EVS staff are also following
- Know how to find the department policies and procedures and assist EVS staff with information as needed
- Help ensure policies are up to date and correct
- Do not work over 40 hours without prior approval of the department director.
Assistant Supervisor Responsibilities
- Assist with arranging schedules, work assignments, and paperwork.
- Complies with department attendance requirements
- Manage staff and handle employee concerns in the absence of the Director of EVS
- Works in conjunction with Director of Materials Management on supplies or other items to order, in absence of Director of EVS
- Where applicable, floats to other areas as needed

- Notifies the Infection Control Nurse of real or potential exposures.
Risk Management & Safety Program
- Demonstrates adherence to risk management and safety policies and codes as evidenced by in-service attendance records and employee practices.
- Maintains a clean and safe environment for patient and co-workers.
- Follows all general safety rules.
- Notified the Safety Director and/or Risk Manager of incidents involving injury or having the potential for injury.
- Submits incident reports according to hospital policy.
Quality Improvement Activities
- Participates in Quality Improvement activities of their department and the facility.
- Identifies areas of improvement and communicates quality improvement ideas to their manager in order to improve the quality of care delivered to patients in their care.
- Is a stakeholder in improvement projects, PDSA process improvement, and Root Cause Analysis discussions.

Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or GED
Certificates, Licensure, Registrations:
- None required
- CPR certification preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively to maintain good working relationships with staff, healthcare providers, and patients
- Must be capable of communicating clearly (reading, writing and speaking) in the English Language.
- Must be proficient in the operation of a personal computer with Microsoft Office and the Internet
- Must be capable of reading and comprehending complex healthcare laws and regulations.
