INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING INTERN – (BLACK MOUNTAIN, NC)

The qualified candidate will support our Industrial Engineer as a part of the Kearfott Motion Systems Quality Engineering team. The selected candidate will work in a dynamic people-focused environment where you will work directly with experienced engineers and on the production floor to enhance your skills and develop a higher level of confidence in your capabilities.

Our Quality Engineering team is deeply ingrained in the functional areas of the business and partners heavily with the leadership team on critical decisions. Team members are expected to have the skills to analyze data and communicate recommendations to leaders at all levels in the company. Through the intern program, we are looking to find the next wave of talent to drive these efforts.

Industrial Engineering Interns will:

  • Be responsible for providing on time support to our internal customers on process improvement opportunities
  • Assist in the development of conducting time-based motion studies and work measurements to establish standard work times and optimize labor utilization. This activity will be focused mainly in the machining areas of the facility.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives through Lean Manufacturing.
  • Collaborates with other engineering disciplines to assure methods, work centers and techniques are appropriate and are incorporated into the processes and production workflow.
  • Must be able to analyze data, provide summary conclusions, and present to site leadership.
  • Must be able to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Other responsibilities may include facility layout design, capacity planning, production scheduling, updating standards in the ERP system, etc.

Required Skills/Education:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university degree program pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial & Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • GPA of 3.2 or above preferred.
  • Completed at least freshman year of college/university.
  • Demonstrated creative problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Have coursework, interest, motivation and experience that provide the foundation to develop an expertise in one or more of the above engineering specialties.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • General knowledge and understanding of mathematical modeling and analysis methods.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

Must be able to work full-time (40 hours per week) for a minimum of 10 weeks during the summer of 2026. Internship Program expected to run from May 19, 2026 – July 31, 2026.
