What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tax Consultant position at KEA?
We have an immediate opening for a Property Tax Consultant to support both our property tax consulting practice and our growing incentive and abatement work with counties, school districts, and corporate clients. This is a relationship-forward role where professionalism, trust, and genuine people skills matter just as much as technical knowledge.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
As a core team member, you'll lead client engagements across our incentive/abatement and property tax consulting practices.
- Build and maintain relationships with county officials, school district representatives, appraisal districts, and clients throughout the incentive and abatement process
- Assist in preparing abatement applications, incentive proposals, and supporting documentation for client projects
- Represent clients and the firm in meetings with local taxing authorities, hearings, and public forums — presenting professionally and advocating effectively
- Perform financial analysis using Excel to support valuation positions and incentive modeling, including tax savings projections and investment impact summaries
- Track deadlines, manage deliverables, and coordinate across client accounts and internal team members with consistent responsiveness
- Travel as needed for client meetings, hearings, site visits, and engagements with local government entities
- Support property tax engagements for a portfolio of commercial and industrial clients, including data gathering, valuation analysis, and appeal preparation
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Real Estate, Public Administration, or a related field
- Some background in property tax, real estate valuation, appraisal, government relations, or economic development is preferred — but we're open to candidates who are eager to learn and develop in the field
- Strong communication and public speaking skills — you're comfortable in a room with elected officials, clients, or county appraisers and can represent our work clearly and professionally
- Genuine relationship-building ability — you're the kind of person who earns trust over time and enjoys working with diverse stakeholders
- Solid Excel skills; comfort working with financial data, building summaries, and organizing information clearly
- Organized, detail-oriented, and dependable — clients and teammates can count on you to follow through
- Comfortable with travel for meetings, hearings, and site visits
- A collaborative, professional mindset — you approach situations with curiosity and a willingness to learn, not with a combative or aggressive posture
