The Raw Materials Technician is responsible for receiving, identifying, sampling, labeling, quarantining, and tracking incoming raw materials used in cosmetic and personal care manufacturing. This position works closely with Quality Control, Warehouse, and Production teams to ensure materials are properly sampled, documented, stored, and released in accordance with cGMP, company quality standards, and regulatory requirements.

General Description
The Raw Materials Technician is responsible for receiving, identifying, sampling, labeling, quarantining, and tracking incoming raw materials used in cosmetic and personal care manufacturing. This position works closely with Quality Control, Warehouse, and Production teams to ensure materials are properly sampled, documented, stored, and released in accordance with cGMP, company quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Raw Material Sampling & Quality Support
- Identify incoming raw materials requiring sampling and inspection.
- Collect representative raw material samples utilizing approved sampling procedures.
- Complete all required documentation and sampling records accurately and legibly.
- Submit samples to the Quality Control Laboratory for analytical testing.
- Maintain daily sample logs to ensure proper tracking and timely testing of all materials.
- Apply quarantine and quality status labels to incoming materials.
- Ensure all incoming materials are properly identified and controlled until released by Quality.
Inventory & Material Handling
- Receive, stage, and transport raw materials within the facility.
- Move materials to designated quarantine, approved, or storage locations.
- Load, unload, stack, and organize pallets safely and efficiently.
- Operate material handling equipment including:
- Forklifts
- Electric pallet jacks
- Hand pallet jacks
- Warehouse scanners and inventory systems
- Verify inventory transactions and material movements within WMS/QAD systems.
- Support cycle counts, inventory accuracy initiatives, and warehouse organization.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate inventory, receiving, and sampling records.
- Ensure compliance with all Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs), SOPs, and company policies.
- Utilize warehouse management systems (WMS), scanners, and electronic inventory controls.
- Communicate inventory discrepancies, damaged materials, or quality concerns to management promptly.
- Assist with investigations related to raw material discrepancies when required.
Safety & Continuous Improvement
- Promote a safe working environment and comply with all Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements.
- Follow all PPE requirements and material handling procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of receiving, sampling, and storage areas.
- Make recommendations for improving warehouse efficiency, quality compliance, and safety.
- Collaborate with Warehouse, Production, Quality Control, and Management teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of experience in Quality Control, Warehouse Operations, Inventory Control, or Materials Management.
- Experience in cosmetics, personal care, pharmaceutical, food, or other FDA-regulated manufacturing environments preferred.
- Experience with warehouse management systems and inventory transactions preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Working knowledge of inventory control principles and material traceability.
- Experience using QAD, WMS systems, RF scanners, or similar inventory platforms preferred.
- Ability to operate forklifts and other material handling equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong mathematical skills, including percentages and inventory calculations.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and special schedules as business needs require.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to safely operate forklifts and material handling equipment.
- No allergies or sensitivities to chemicals that would prevent safe handling of raw materials or required PPE.
