The Environmental, Health and Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining and training on all environmental, health and safety programs, site security coordination and related policies and procedures.

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develops, implements, and maintains all environmental, health, safety and security programs, policies & procedures in accordance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations.

  • Trains employees on all EH&S programs, policies & procedures as credentialed to perform and coordinates external training required for any EH&S programs not credentialed to perform.

  • Develops and maintains the EH&S training curriculum for each position within the facility; communicates with the training coordinator any changes to the curriculum on a regular basis.

  • Inspects the assigned sites to identify safety, health and environmental risks; develops, executes and participates in a safety audit program that identifies, reports, and corrects unsafe work conditions and future safety risks.

  • Coordinates with the management team to establish a corrective action plan that eliminates the safety risks identified; reports any deficiencies in executing the corrective action plan.

  • Conducts safety hazard assessments; establishes a 4-point risk assessment for each position within the facility and audits work activities to ensure employees are performing in compliance with their risk level.

  • Develops an incident and accident reporting procedure and trains employees on the process; leads investigations of injury, including near misses and coordinates the with the management team to establish a corrective action plan.

  • Coordinates with outside agencies (e.g. temporary agencies, external contractors) to ensure all proper training is conducted and maintained for everyone working in the facility, including coordination of safety orientation and on the job training.

  • Leads the security efforts at the assigned sites; develops partnerships with external agency and ensures that security measures are in place and are effective (e.g. clear bag policy, random checks).

  • Serves as the HAZMAT and DOT compliance specialist for transportation and disposal of hazardous waste; audits the effectiveness of the HAZMAT and DOT programs.

  • Develops, prepares, and distributes key safety and HR metrics to the management team. Provide recommendations to strengthen the safety position and HR performance of the assigned locations

  • Establishes strategies to promote a safety first culture, including an incentive program designed to increase safety awareness and reward positive safety results.

  • Develops and manages the safety budget; manages expenses and approves related invoices

  • Trains, coaches and develops employees within the department to ensure performance expectations and department objectives are met according to established standards; manages performance expectations and delivers feedback.

  • Completes employee performance reviews, preliminary budgetary information, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs), BWC, OSHA and other governmental reports and other paperwork according to established company policy.

  • Maintains confidentiality of employee injury records and related safety information, audit results, complaints and related resolutions and other sensitive and confidential information.

  • Exhibits regular and predictable attendance and works outside of the normal schedule as needed due to workplace demands (e.g. supporting off-shifts). Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health or related field required;

  • Minimum of 7 years previous experience in leading the safety function at a manufacturing site (previous experience in working in pharmaceutical, beauty/personal care or food manufacturing is strongly preferred)

  • 1-3 years of previous management experience.

  • MSP, ASP or CSP certification strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of: Microsoft Office Suite: FDA Good Manufacturing Practices and OSHA Safety Requirements; add in any additional knowledge areas.

  • Skill in: solving problems; prioritizing work to ensure deadlines are met; managing, coaching and developing others; developing and leading training for others; creating and leading a safety culture.

  • Ability to: manage multiple and competing priorities; resolve difficult situations with no clear direction; adapt to change; develop and maintain good working relationships; lead and develop a high-performing team; develop and maintain processes and workflows; be detail-oriented; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to a diverse group of individuals; present information to large and small groups; be organized and work quickly and efficiently with short deadlines; multi-task; read, comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions, including SOPs; work independently and as part of a team; operate a computer; wear required PPE as needed when walking through the facility

  • Other functions, skills and abilities may apply.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds manually.

  • A climate-controlled office environment; the noise level is usually moderately quiet; however the individual must be able to work for extended periods of time in the Production area where the noise level is moderately loud.

  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time in front of a computer, stand, walk, use hands to handle and feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, crouch, talk, hear, push and pull

  • Exposure to frequent movement of motorized equipment throughout the facility, including electric pallet jacks, forklifts, etc.
