Preschool Teacher in a classroom setting within a Public School System. Charged with promoting learning within the approved curriculum for children 3-5 years old, supervising Teacher Aides and Classroom Assistants.

Duties and Responsibilities

Integration of agency programs and services places each employee in a position of cooperation: seeking advice from other employees; sharing of program information; and assisting in other work units when needed. All employees must be conscious of and develop habits in reducing waste, eliminating duplication of services, and improving productivity and cost effectiveness.

The duties of the Preschool (K-4) Teacher include, but are not limited to:

  • Acquire knowledge of and implement accordingly the Head Start Program Performance Standards.

  • Promote school readiness for all children.

  • Have an understanding of the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework.

  • Work cooperatively with other Child Development staff in the planning, integration, and implementation of EHS/HS program services for children 3to 5 years of age.

  • Become competent in the use of designated computer programs, and use properly in the operations of the Child Development Program.

  • Responsible for compiling designated reports in a timely manner.

  • Participate in the annual program self-assessment process.

  • Gain a working knowledge of all programs operated by KCEOC for the purpose of providing information, making referrals and the delivery of integrated services to clients.

  • Preserve the privacy of all children and families enrolled in KCEOC’s Child Development Program by maintaining the confidentiality and security of all family information.

  • Responsible for generating an appropriate amount of non-federal share (in-kind) that is reasonable and necessary for the operation of the Child Development Program.

  • Responsible for obtaining the annual required number of Child Development training hours per local, state and federal regulations through KCEOC’s Pre-service Training.

  • Maintain certification by a recognized source such as the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross in CPR and First Aid Safety.

In addition, the duties of the Preschool (K-4) Teacher include, but are not limited to:

  • Assure that the educational component’s goals and objectives are met in classroom activities.

  • Supervise the teacher aide at their assigned center. Provide instruction to their teacher aide in carrying out the goals and objectives of the education component; provide the teacher assistant with opportunities for learning.

  • Develop lesson plans, updating and revising based on the children’s individual education plans; maintain an age appropriate learning environment in the classroom.

  • Actively participate and offer suggestions in conferences, staff meetings, trainings and recruitment activities.

  • Be responsive to the challenge of providing integrated comprehensive services.

  • Work cooperatively with the Family Child Advocates in assessing and meeting the needs of enrolled children and their families. Assist and ensure that communication between Family Child Advocates and parents is provided timely by delivering messages and written communication as requested.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and age appropriate learning environment.

  • Encourage parent participation in their child’s development and educational experiences, both in the home and in the classroom, assist parents in understanding the transitional process into the Head Start program and from Head Start into public education.

  • Be responsive to the children with special needs and disabling conditions; work cooperatively with the Disability Manager and other staff in addressing special needs and implementing the individual education plan.

  • Responsible for obtaining the annual required number of Child Development training hours per local, state and federal regulations. The opportunity to obtain these hours will be provided through KCEOC’s Child Development pre-service training.

  • Meet all requirements of the Kentucky Department of Education and school system in which they are teaching.

  • Responsible for maintaining individual, comprehensive charts for every enrolled child in caseload. Ensuring all required documentation is maintained at all times.

  • Observe the children and enter anecdotal notes and developmental assessment information into the computerized assessment program in a timely manner. Meet all deadlines regarding developmental assessment input.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education or a provisional certificate with intent to pursue the IECE

Additional Requirements: Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation
