Hours: 18-26 hours per week; part-time

Salary: $17/hour plus tips; non-exempt

Position Overview:

KC Pet Project is hiring for one part-time Barista at our main shelter, the Kansas City Campus for Animal Care (KCCAC). This position would work in the coffee shop located in the adoptions lobby of the shelter. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the life-saving mission of KC Pet Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the life-saving mission of animals, while gaining hands-on experience in the foodservice industry. Your work will directly support the shelter’s mission and you’ll be a part of a team that makes a positive impact on the staff, volunteers and on the community.

Daily Duties and Responsibilities:

• Promptly greet and interact with customers, staff, and volunteers in a friendly and warm manner.
• Take orders, apply discounts, process card transactions, handle cash, and operate the POS with accuracy.
• Prepare coffee, tea, and other specialty beverages according to customer specifications.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the cafe areas according to daily cleaning checklists and SOP’s, including prep stations, equipment, utensils, etc.
• Execute daily opening and closing procedures.
• Keep inventory fully stocked and properly rotated.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Keep accurate records of spoilage and wastage.
• Communicate effectively with coworkers to ensure smooth, efficient operations and uphold a positive and inviting space.
• Maintain awareness of shelter programs, promotions, and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.
  
  
  

Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this position the employee is regularly required to stand, walk,

sit, see, touch, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle

or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift up to 50lbs and routinely move or lift

25lbs.

Qualifications/Educational Background:

• Minimum of a High School Diploma, or a GED or 2 years in the field or in a related area, or suitable combination of education and relevant experience preferred.
• Barista experience preferred, but not required; training will be provided.
• Demonstrate a positive attitude driving the ability to work independently on shift and as part of a small, close-knit, team.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage with diverse customers and team members.
• Comfortability around animals and passion for supporting the mission of KC Pet Project.
• Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
• Must enjoy working in a people oriented and socially interactive environment.
• Flexible availability, including weekends and occasional holidays.
