The duties and responsibilities of an Electrical Discipline Lead include but are not limited to:
Staffing
- Interviews and hires for all electrical design employees.
- Responsible for training electrical design employees and assistance with technical questions and guidance.
- Monitors progress of projects, confers with project managers, and oversee all aspects of engineering design, specific to the electrical discipline within designated projects
- Maintain regular team meetings for electrical staff to share knowledge and discuss challenges.
- Perform annual staff reviews and provide performance feedback.
- Identify performance problems and perform disciplinary action.
Technical Design
- Evaluate electrical systems, products, components, and applications by designing and applying knowledge of power, power distribution, and lighting systems
- Develop electrical design of lighting, power, and fire alarm systems to meet client requirements
- Prepare and study technical drawings and specifications of electrical systems to ensure that installation and operations conform to code standards
- Cross-discipline coordination of MEPT components within Revit and AutoCAD
- Ability to write and edit design specifications
- Ability to listen to others, express ideas effectively, and provide relevant and timely information to co-workers and clients both verbally and in writing
- Conduct field surveys to determine existing project conditions
- Conduct construction site visits to ensure systems are installed per drawings and specifications
- Respond to contractor RFIs and review project shop drawings/submittals
- Emphasis on timely and accurate execution of deadlines
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Four-year accredited program in Electrical Engineering or related field of study
- Ten years of design experience within the building design sector
- Revit and AutoCAD Proficiency
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
Preferred Skills
- Revit MEP
- Maintain or able to obtain a Professional Engineer License
- Project management experience
- Graduate degree in engineering or related field of study
