JOB SUMMARY: The General Ledger Accountant is responsible for various accounting functions including the preparation of journal entries and maintenance of account reconciliations. In this capacity, employee interacts with the other National Accounting and Purchasing Administration personnel, as well as division personnel to ensure the integrity of the accounting information. Additionally, employee will understand the implications of non-lot level accounting and work to resolve non-lot staging issues in a timely manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Intercompany clearing – clear all intercompany transactions with Corporate including legal, wire fundings, bank deposits, insurance and benefit allocations, marketing and advertising costs paid on behalf of division, professional services, phone and data processing costs, and corporate Division allocations.
Sales Journal Entries – Primary responsibility for HUD/COS process, first review of entries for accuracy, consistency and adherence to company policy, communicate with DUP, ensure all closed homes are recorded each month, ensure lot accruals are booked for lot financial analysis report for each closing.
Account Reconciliation preparation and analysis – Prepare monthly account reconciliations for balance sheet accounts including Cash, Accounts Receivable, Joint Ventures, Fixed Assets, accounts payable and other accrued expenses ensuring any reconciled items are properly documented and addressed.
Prepare other monthly journal entries required for close including but not limited to model and fixed asset depreciation, vacation, interest expense, property tax accruals, rebate estimates and adjustments, and balance sheet reclass journal entries.
Preparation of various schedules for Financial Statement Package – Prepare all excel schedules for the financial statement package, excluding inventory schedules, ensuring completeness and accuracy. Assemble the financial statement final package.
Periodic and Ad Hoc requests including tax package schedules, property tax payments, assisting with audit requests, quarterly variance analyses for Corporate, segment variance analysis, uploading check requests
Preparation of other monthly schedules including VC closed home to schedule 35 reconciliation, inventory summary, warranty analysis, and quarterly certification schedules as needed
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certifications/Licenses
High School Education required
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
Masters/MBA and or CPA are a plus
Experience
Minimum 1 to 2 years full-cycle accounting experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Must possess good analytical and problem solving skills
Strong experience in reading, analyzing and reconciling financial reports
Advanced Excel skills including lookups and pivot tables for analysis
Proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Comfortable with using ERP applications for importing data to derive solutions, analysis and reporting
Strong attention to details, performs self-review of work, updates job knowledge, self-motivated to learn and
participate in projects
Ability to effectively communicate with NAPA and division personnel
Must be able to manage multiple tasks to ensure deadlines are met, high level of organization required
Must have strong mathematical and statistical aptitude
Must possess the skills and abilities to offer support to management as needed or requested
Ability to stay organized and manages priorities in an efficient manner
Self-motivated and able to work in a collectively responsible team environment
Work Requirements
May be required to work overtime as necessary at month-end and quarter/fiscal quarter end
Must conduct business in a professional and ethical manner to potential buyers, external business associates and coworkers to reinforce goodwill and profitability for the company
