IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Health Director
CONTROLLING SUPERVISOR: Chair
STATUS: REGULAR/FULL-TIME
LOCATION: NEWKIRK, OK
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Registered Nurse with current Oklahoma License. Associate’s Degree with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience required. Computer proficiency required.
- Public Health Nurse experience preferred with ability to:
- Establish goals for home-bound patients
- Develop training & teaching programs for public & in-home use
- Provide prevention & public health services under physician protocols
- Develop and maintain strong rapport with diverse client base
- Knowledge of comprehensive health programs and the full range of professional public health nursing principles, standards, practices, and procedures.
- Knowledge and ability to apply methods and techniques of adult education to stimulate behavioral changes related to good health practices.
- Must possess professional and personal integrity, have respect and sensitivity for a culturally diverse population and have excellent people skills
- Knowledge of drugs and the desired effect in treatment of disease and side-effects.
- Knowledge of quality improvement processes to improve patient care and facilitate monitoring, evaluation, and program planning.
- Knowledge of health record aspects of patient care and an ability to accurately and completely document related clinical data.
- Ability to provide supervision, guidance, and instruction to other staff assigned to the Public Health Nursing and Home Health Care Programs.
- Ability to operate government, tribal, and private vehicles and maintain current operator’s license.
- Current registration as a professional nurse is required for continued employment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, develop, and implement comprehensive public health delivery system including prevention, patient education, immunization, maternal and child health, chronic disease prevention and monitoring, nutrition, home health services, and other related areas.
- Diagnose and refer patients as needed. Utilize all possible resources both within the Indian Health Service and the Kaw Nation Health Program and outside of those parameters.
- Monitor and evaluate the public health and home health components of the Kaw Nation Health Program.
- Responsible for the Kaw Nation Diabetic Grant objectives and goals.
- Responsible for pre-employment, post-accident, and random drug testing of Kaw Nation employees with referrals to treatment as needed per test results.
- Compete any other duties as assigned by the immediate/controlling supervisor.
All new hires will be required by the Kaw Nation to submit to a pre-employment drug screen. Failure to pass the pre-hire drug screen will lead to withdrawal of the job offer or termination of employment. All new hires must be able to stand, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, pull, push and lift a minimum of 25 lbs.

- Four (4) hours of Annual Leave begins accruing with the first paycheck and each full check during employment. As the employee’s length of service increases the 4 hours accrued increases to 6 (after 3 years), 8 (after 10 years), and 10 (after 15 years) hours per paycheck.
- Four (4) hours of Sick Leave begins accruing with the first paycheck and each full check during employment. This amount remains the same throughout employment.
