Cashier/Milk Department Team Member

This is a dual-role position for someone who enjoys working with customers while also being comfortable stocking, organizing, and helping manage our milk department. As a Cashier / Milk Department Clerk, you’ll help create a positive experience for our customers from the moment they walk up to the register to the moment they leave, while also making sure the milk department is stocked, organized, and ready for our neighbors.

The ideal candidate is friendly, attentive, dependable, and takes pride in doing things accurately and thoroughly. This position includes physical stocking duties and requires the ability to lift and handle products weighing up to 30 pounds.

The responsibilities listed below represent the primary expectations of the position, but working at a neighborhood market means we all pitch in. From time to time, you may be asked to assist in other areas of the store or help with tasks outside of your usual responsibilities based on the needs of the market. We are looking for someone who is flexible, proactive, and willing to help wherever needed.

Responsibilities

Customer Service & Cashiering

• Greet customers warmly and provide assistance as needed.
• Operate the cash register, processing sales transactions accurately and efficiently.
• Handle cash, credit, and debit transactions while ensuring accuracy in all financial exchanges.
• Communicate promotions and special offers to customers and assist with upselling products when appropriate.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked checkout area.
• Assist with product demonstrations and tastings when needed.
• Answer customer questions and help resolve concerns promptly and courteously.
• Provide excellent customer service throughout each customer's visit.

Milk Department & Stocking

• Stock and organize the milk and dairy department.
• Receive, organize, rotate, and replenish milk and related products.
• Assist with managing orders for the milk department and maintaining appropriate product levels.
• Check dates and rotate products according to store standards.
• Keep the milk department clean, organized, and presentable.
• Lift, carry, and maneuver products weighing up to 30 pounds.
• Assist with general stocking throughout the store when needed.

Teamwork & Store Support

• Work closely with team members to keep the market operating smoothly.
• Assist customers and coworkers during busy periods.
• Help maintain a clean, orderly, and welcoming store environment.
• Be willing to assist in other departments or with other store duties when needed.
• Take initiative and look for ways to help the team and our customers.
• Assist with closing duties when scheduled for a closing shift.

Qualifications

• Previous retail, grocery, stocking, or cashier experience is preferred but not required.
• Strong customer service skills and a positive attitude.
• Basic math skills and the ability to accurately handle transactions.
• Familiarity with cash registers and point-of-sale systems is a plus.
• Excellent communication and phone etiquette.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
• Ability to lift and handle products weighing up to 30 pounds.
• Comfortable standing, walking, bending, reaching, and performing physical stocking duties throughout a shift.
• Dependable, proactive, and willing to help wherever needed.
• Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including closing shifts when scheduled.
