Kaukauna Utilities (KU) is seeking an experienced, hands-on Electrical Engineering professional to serve as our Manager of Engineering & Project Management. This working manager position combines technical engineering, project management, and staff leadership in support of our electric and water utility operations.

We're looking for someone who enjoys being directly involved in engineering work, from evaluating system needs and developing designs to coordinating construction and seeing projects through completion. The ideal candidate is comfortable solving technical challenges, collaborating with field crews, managing project priorities, and providing direction to engineering staff.

As a municipally owned utility, KU offers the opportunity to work on meaningful projects and directly contributes to the reliability and future of our community's infrastructure.

What You'll Do

Engineering & Infrastructure Design: Perform and oversee engineering studies, system planning, design, and construction documentation for electric and water utility infrastructure projects, including coordination with consultants and contractors.

Project Management: Lead projects from planning and design through construction and completion, managing schedules, budgets, resources, and deliverables.

Project Coordination & Execution: Coordinate construction activities, manage competing priorities, monitor project progress, and collaborate with field crews, City departments, developers, and other stakeholders to ensure timely, successful project completion.

Technical Support & Problem-Solving: Work directly with field crews and utility staff to troubleshoot issues, evaluate system needs, and develop practical, safe, and cost-effective engineering solutions.

Staff Leadership: Provide technical guidance, day-to-day direction, and supervision to engineering staff while remaining actively involved in engineering and project work.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Five or more years of engineering experience, preferably in the utility industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in utility infrastructure and engineering design, with strong technical problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects, meet deadlines, communicate effectively, and provide technical direction to others.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with field crews and remain actively involved in engineering and operational challenges.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Municipal utility experience, Professional Engineer (PE) licensure, or project management certification.
  • Experience with electric distribution systems, substations, system planning, and water distribution infrastructure.
  • Proficiency with GIS, AutoCAD, or similar engineering tools, and familiarity with utility regulations.
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience.

Why Join Kaukauna Utilities?

You'll be directly involved in the engineering decisions, designs, and improvements that support our community's electric and water systems.

Our collaborative environment offers the opportunity to work closely with operations, take ownership of meaningful projects, and see your work make a direct impact. We value individuals who take initiative, deliver results, and demonstrate our commitment to safety, customer focus, teamwork, integrity, and continuous improvement.
