Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Must have strong ownership, attention to detail and collaboration skills
- Develop simulation cases to convert to process flow diagrams and P&ID’s
- Continuously work to improve in-house programs for equipment sizing calculations, work processes, and process development packages
- Develop equipment specifications, data sheets, conceptual vendor fabrication drawings
- Assist in 3D model reviews and initial equipment layout design
- Perform hydraulic calculations for pump sizing, specification, line sizing and control valve sizing
- Specify instrumentation for full project design and associated control strategies
- Design heat exchangers from concept to fabrication drawings (shell & tube, plate and frame and falling film evaporators)
- Design knowledge of distillation columns and strippers from concept through fabrication
- Process Safety – Familiarity of relief valve sizing, cases and equipment pressure ratings
- Provide technical support for commissioning and start-ups
- Future interest in customer interfacing role such as Project Management or client technical services
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Other degrees will be considered pending prior experience.
- Experience: Ideal candidate will have 10 years of experience in project process design
- Technical Skills:
- High level of competency in process simulation software through PFD’s to P&ID development
- Experiencing performing heat and material balances for greenfield facilities, rating existing processes for brownfield projects
- Mastery of hydraulic and equipment sizing calculations (pumps, heat exchangers, distillation columns, drums / tanks, control valves, & instruments)
- Knowledge of industry standards and best practices for process design (API, GPSA, ASME, ASTM, OSHA & NFPA)
- Understanding of control narratives and associated advanced control strategies
- Previous experience working on agriculturally based bio-chemical processes (corn to ethanol, soybean refining, biodiesel, SAF, biogas). Chemical or Oil & Gas experience will be considered.
- Applicable Software Skillset:
- Process Simulation – CHEMCAD, Aspen, HYSYS, PRO /II or KBC Products
- Heat Exchanger Sizing Software – HTRI or equivalent
- Pump sizing software – Goulds / Sulzer Select or equivalent
- Fisher Spec Manager for Sizing Control Valves
- Emerson Online for Instrumentation Sizing or equivalent
- Fluency in Microsoft Excel and understanding of VBA
- Bluebeam for initial drawing creation and redlines
- Smart P&ID’s – awareness and use would be a plus!
- AutoCAD for P&ID markups or equivalent
- Navisworks or equivalent for 3D model reviews
- Emerson Online for Instrumentation Sizing or equivalent
- Licensure: PE license is preferred, but not required
