Attorney – Criminal & Traffic Defense

Wolf of Wall Street Energy. Courtroom Ethics.

Katz Law, LLC | Milwaukee, Wisconsin | Statewide Practice

Katz Law is not looking for someone who wants to quietly occupy an office, collect a paycheck, and wait to be told what to do.

We are looking for a closer.

Someone competitive. Someone hungry. Someone who sees a packed calendar, a difficult prosecutor, and a complicated case—and immediately starts figuring out how to win.

Katz Law has built one of Wisconsin’s highest-volume traffic defense practices, and we are aggressively expanding our criminal defense division. We represent clients across the state in traffic cases, OWIs, misdemeanors, felonies, domestic violence matters, drug cases, financial crimes, and serious criminal investigations.

We have the infrastructure. We have the case volume. We have the reputation. We have the courtroom opportunities.

Now we want another attorney who is ready to capitalize on them.

This is not a job for someone who wants to spend three years proofreading someone else’s motions before being trusted to speak in court. You will handle real cases, advise real clients, negotiate real outcomes, and appear in court from the beginning.

You will be supported. You will be mentored. You will be given the tools to succeed.

But you will also be expected to produce.

Who We Want

We want the attorney who is already thinking:

Give me the file.

Give me the discovery.

Tell me where court is.

Let me handle it.

You are ambitious, organized, persuasive, and difficult to outwork. You do not need someone hovering over you to make sure deadlines are met. You do not disappear when a case becomes uncomfortable. You do not blame the client, the calendar, the prosecutor, or the staff when something goes wrong.

You take ownership.

You understand that confidence is earned through preparation. You can walk into a courtroom, command attention, and advocate aggressively without embarrassing yourself, the client, or the firm.

You are comfortable talking to everyone—from a nervous first-time offender to a circuit court judge. You can explain complicated legal issues without hiding behind legal jargon. You know when to negotiate, when to push, and when to prepare for war.

Most importantly, you want more than a job.

You want a platform.

What You’ll Do

You will manage criminal, OWI, traffic, and municipal cases from intake through final resolution. That means reviewing discovery, identifying weaknesses, counseling clients, negotiating with prosecutors, drafting motions, preparing witnesses, appearing in court, and trying cases when necessary.

You will:

Appear in municipal and circuit courts throughout Wisconsin.

Take responsibility for your own caseload and deadlines.

Develop case strategies instead of merely processing files.

Negotiate aggressively and intelligently.

Draft motions, briefs, sentencing submissions, and client correspondence.

Handle preliminary hearings, motion hearings, court trials, and jury trials.

Communicate directly and honestly with clients.

Work alongside experienced criminal defense and trial attorneys.

Help build and shape a rapidly growing criminal defense practice.

Develop your own reputation, courtroom presence, and book of business.

This role comes with responsibility because responsibility is how great lawyers are made.

This Position Is Probably Not for You If:

You need constant reminders.

You avoid difficult conversations with clients.

You believe routine court appearances are beneath you.

You become overwhelmed when several things are happening at once.

You want praise for completing basic responsibilities.

You are more interested in looking like a lawyer than becoming an exceptional one.

You want a predictable desk job with limited accountability.

There are plenty of firms where you can disappear into the background.

Katz Law is not one of them.

Qualifications

You must have:

A Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.

Admission to the State Bar of Wisconsin, or the ability to obtain prompt admission.

Strong written and oral advocacy skills.

The ability to manage deadlines, clients, and competing priorities.

Sound judgment and professional discretion.

A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

The willingness to travel to courts throughout Wisconsin.

Private practice criminal defense, prosecution, public defender or other litigation experience is strongly preferred.

We will also consider a newer attorney who may not have an impressive résumé yet—but has the intelligence, work ethic, presence, and competitive drive to become outstanding.

Spanish fluency is a significant plus.

What You Get

Katz Law offers something many firms promise but few actually provide: real opportunity.

You will receive:

Immediate courtroom experience.

Direct mentorship from experienced trial attorneys.

Access to a substantial and growing caseload.

Support from established administrative staff.

Modern technology and practice-management systems.

Opportunities to handle increasingly serious and complex cases.

A path toward leadership, higher compensation, and greater autonomy.

The ability to build your own professional identity within a growing statewide firm.

We do not expect you to know everything on day one.

We do expect you to learn quickly, prepare relentlessly, communicate honestly, and refuse to be outworked.

Compensation

Compensation will be competitive and based on experience, ability, and demonstrated performance.

The compensation package may include:

Performance-based bonuses

Business-development incentives

Paid time off and holidays

Health Insurance Stipend

401(k)

State Bar dues and approved continuing legal education

Reimbursement for authorized statewide travel

Firm-provided technology and practice-management resources

We are interested in attorneys who want their compensation and responsibility to grow with their performance.

Location

The position will be based primarily at:
