Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in social work from graduate social work program fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)
  2. Valid Texas Licensure in Social Work in good standing with Behavior Executive Council (LMSW required)
  3. Minimum two years professional social work experience (school social work experience preferred)
  4. Ability to collaborate on a multidisciplinary team with other school professionals
  5. General knowledge of local, regional, and state community resources
  6. General knowledge of the outside mental health system to assist students and families in accessing support
  7. Effective/efficient oral and written communication skills 

Primary Purpose:

 

Social workers serve as a link between the home, school and community. The primary purpose is to provide direct and indirect social work services to students and families by addressing academic, behavioral, mental health and social emotional concerns in conjunction with student, family and campus needs. 

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and employ direct intervention strategies for students, staff, and families to resolve stressors and remove barriers that interfere with student success. 
  2. Assess needs and provide counseling to students and families individually, in groups, or during home visits regarding needed social, emotional or developmental adjustments. 
  3. Provide case management services to assist students and families requiring intensive support.
  4. Coordinate services between school and outside community agencies to provide wraparound support to the student and family.
  5. Assist in developing relationships with outside community resources to provide appropriate referrals to students, parents and staff.
  6. Advocate on students and families behalf to ensure they are receiving adequate school support for mental health.
  7. Provide staff development related to topics of mental health, trauma informed care, and social emotional support to staff and parents.
  8. Serve as a member of multidisciplinary team to support students, school personnel and families by developing strategies and interventions on academic and behavioral issues. 
  9. Provide crisis intervention services for students and families at assigned campuses.
  10. Serve on the district crisis team and campus behavioral threat assessment team at assigned campuses.
  11. Facilitate identification and referrals for homeless/foster care students and families in collaboration with homeless and foster liaisons.
  12. Participate in campus/district professional development, meetings, and serve on committees as assigned.
  13. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical & responsible.
  14. Follow all district, state, and federal policies and procedures.
  15. Adhere to current professional standards of social work practice and competence.

Equipment Used:

 

Computer, printer, copier, overhead projector, DVD/VCR, cellular phone, and other emerging technologies which are particularly unique to the assignment. Instructional and productivity software, as required by the assignment.

  

Working Conditions:

 

Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Moderate lifting and carrying 15-44 pounds weekly.
