Duty Days: 238 Days, 8 Hours/Day
Wage/Hour Status: Exempt
Pay Grade: A08
Qualifications:
College hours, high school diploma or GED
Demonstrated ability to interview, counsel, communicate and provide written and oral commands
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements
TAPT supervisor certification or able to obtain
Pass annual physical in accordance with state law
School Bus Driver Certification or able to obtain within six months of hire date
Negative result on drug and/or alcohol tests administered as pre-employment, random, post-accident and/or reasonable suspicion basis, in accordance with federal law and district policy
Able to read and interpret maps and routes
Able to climb in and out of all school bus emergency exits
Working knowledge of District’s street grid
Familiar with school bus or medium vehicle operations and user maintenance
Advanced courses in management theory preferred
Primary Purpose:
Coordinate and supervise the orientation, training and the day-to-day activities of bus drivers and attendants. Provide first line supervision of school bus drivers in the safe and on-time delivery of school students. Safely drive students to and from school on a schedule assigned by the Transportation Department. Safely transport students and staff to and from district sanctioned activities. Always act in the best interest of the district, the students and the community.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise, counsel, and monitor the work activities of drivers, attendants and daycare personnel.
- Assist in the observation, reporting and counseling of drivers and attendants concerning safety and violations of policy and procedures.
- Prepare, evaluate and maintain the records of performance of transportation personnel.
- Resolve problems and complaints from students, citizens and employees regarding transportation personnel.
- Prepare and document the routing/scheduling of the drivers and attendants in a safe and cost effective manner to transport the students as dictated by the TEA.
- Participate in the screening, hiring and training of bus drivers and attendants as dictated by the TEA and DOT regulations.
- Supervise and assist in the preparation of the payroll, accident/worker’s compensation reports, routes and the state reports.
- Operate any Katy ISD school bus and related equipment in a safe and efficient manner while following all traffic laws, district policies, district regulations and Transportation Department regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Equipment Used:
School bus and district vehicles, two-way radios and telephones. School buses, emergency equipment (triangle reflectors, fire extinguisher, bodily fluids kit, etc.), Computer, adding machines, printers and faxes.
Working Conditions:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Continual sitting, reaching, and repetitive hand and arm motions. Work outside and inside. Work inside and outside, around moving objects and vehicles. Exposed to heat, dampness, humidity, toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline and diesel fuel. Prolonged driving and sitting. Frequent walking, standing, twisting, climbing stairs, stooping, bending, grasping/squeezing, wrist and shoulder flexion/extension.
