Qualifications:

 

Master’s degree in related field preferred

Valid Speech Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Certified teacher of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, or certified teacher of students with Visual Impairments.

Valid Texas Teacher Certificate, if not licensed

Three years’ experience in related field

Experience with Assistive Technology                    

Ability to work with school and community populations

 

Primary Purpose:

 

Provide student appraisal and instructional leadership in the area of assistive technology to special education and general education teachers within the district.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Provide leadership to the District Assistive Technology Team in all areas of assistive technology.
  2. Conduct assistive technology evaluations and provide technical support and assistance to other Assistive Technology Team members with their evaluations.
  3. Present a written report of assessment data and recommendation to ARD committees.
  4. Provide consultation to professionals and parents in integrating assistive technology into student IEP.
  5. Provide follow up with campus staff implementing the recommendations from the District Assistive Technology Team.
  6. Provide training and assistance to support staff,  teachers and parents in the use of assistive  technology with students.
  7. Provide training to support campus staff and teachers on legal mandates regarding assistive technology.
  8. Assist with the selection and ordering of assistive technology devices and software, and assist with managing the inventory and budget of AT materials.
  9. Coordinate Assistive Technology meetings with district team members.
  10. Assist in developing and revising assistive technology forms and manuals.
  11. Participate in district training, in-service, and meetings.
  12. Stay knowledgeable of and current on issues, laws, State changes, and Federal changes as related to assistive technology.  
  13. Communicate with the Special Education Department, campuses, and parents on issues concerning students, concerns, or requested information in a positive manner.

Equipment Used:

 

Personal computer, printer, copier, and fax machine. Assistive technology: no tech, low tech and high tech. Wheelchair: lifts, restraints, ramps and locks.

 

Working Conditions:

 

Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions, moderate lifting and carrying, sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions. Frequent district wide travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Exposure to noise, microwaves and biological hazards.
