Summary

Perform MRI and diagnostic radiological procedures, including patient positioning, image acquisition and processing, equipment quality control, and documentation. Ensure patient safety and respond appropriately to adverse reactions and medical emergencies.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform routine diagnostic radiological procedures/services
  • Adhere to radiation safety policies and procedures in accordance with Radiology Department policies and procedures
  • Send appropriate image series to the radiologist for reading according to MTF protocol
  • Correctly position the patient for the examination and make technical adjustments necessary for the required examination. Determine if any special patient preparation is required
  • Process digital images and submit for interpretation by radiologists
  • Document all procedures and maintain records in accordance with MTF policy
  • Perform system calibrations and quality control tasks according to the manufacturer and MTF policy. Recognize artifacts and equipment errors and notify designated Government personnel of outlying values
  • Initiate repair call procedures for equipment malfunctions by notifying designated Government personnel. Report problems to the Biomedical Repair Section and record the problem condition in the trouble call logbook
  • Observe and report to the radiologist any symptoms which have direct bearing on the patient's condition as a result of adverse reaction to contrast media and inform the radiologist of any condition requiring their attention. Recognize the need for and institute the necessary emergency measures for situations where a person requires resuscitation procedures due to cardiac or respiratory arrest
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a graduate from an academic program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT)
  • Must be Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT)
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years of MRI scanning experience as an MRI Technologist
  • Possess knowledge of the effects of continuous radiofrequency (RF) exposure to human tissues, so as not to exceed the source absorption rate (SAR), established by the FDA, while in the clinical mode. Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology such as location, appearance, and function of the various major and minor systems and to recognize when additional sequences, scans and different planes or positions are needed to fully illustrate the pathology produced by MRI
  • Possess knowledge of basic nursing practices related to MRI such as emergency cardiac arrest procedures and use of oxygen to assist with breathing difficulties, sterile techniques (infectious control procedures)
  • Possess knowledge of emergency procedure evacuation in case of any severe malfunction of magnet and computer system
  • Must have an Active BLS Certification
  • Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks

  • Experience with advanced MRI techniques and specialized imaging procedures
  • Strong knowledge of MRI safety, cross-sectional anatomy, and patient care
  • Excellent attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills

WORK SCHEDULE

Full-time. May be required to work additional hours as needed to complete assignment or project. Work on weekends/holidays may be required. The average work schedule will be 40 hours per week.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed primarily in a hospital or medical imaging environment. Employee works around MRI equipment, computers, contrast media, and medical supplies and may interact frequently with patients, physicians, radiologists, and other healthcare personnel. Strict MRI safety and infection control procedures are required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and positioning or assisting patients. Employee may be required to lift, move, or transfer patients and equipment and may spend extended periods standing during examinations. Requires close visual attention to digital images and the ability to respond quickly to patient emergencies.
