Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

The Geophysicist at Katalyst Data Management supports geophysical data interpretation and analysis activities, working under the guidance of senior technical staff to deliver high-quality consultancy services. This role requires foundational knowledge of seismic interpretation, geological principles, and geophysical data processing techniques. The Geophysicist will assist in structural and stratigraphic interpretation projects, contribute to prospect evaluation, and support client deliverables while developing expertise in industry-standard geophysical software and workflows.

Tasks:

  • Assist in subsurface data management including seismic (Raw data, Pre-Stack and Post-Stack), well files (VSPs and well logs) and derivative products. 
  • Conduct quality control on seismic data and interpretation products.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports, presentations, and client deliverables.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute technical insights.
  • Maintain subsurface databases and ensure data integrity. 
  • Support senior staff in prospect evaluation and risk assessment activities.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Highly organized, capable of managing multiple priorities and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in geospatial and seismic interpretation tools, including ArcGIS, QGIS, Petrel, and DSG.
  • Experienced with industry-standard data formats, such as SEGY for seismic data and LAS/DLIS for well logs.
  • Solid foundation in geophysical principles, including seismic wave propagation and rock physics.
  • Thorough understanding of oil and gas operations, including bid rounds, ANP documentation, production reporting, and farm-in/farm-out processes.
  • Familiar with interpretation datasets, such as formation tops, horizons, and structural grids.
  • Skilled in developing presentations and analytical reports to support technical and strategic initiatives.
  • Adaptable and eager to learn, with a commitment to continuous improvement and emerging technologies.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

This role will be responsible for providing guidance to multiple sectors in the company, the support will always be related to the understanding of the sub-surface data.

Work Environment: 

This job operates in a professional office environment, with a hybrid regime.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones.

Physical Demands: 

The role is primarily sedentary and requires the ability to sit for extended periods. It also involves prolonged computer use, which may include typing, viewing screens, and interacting with digital systems for much of the workday.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: 

This is a full-time role, and as such, the Geophysicist is eligible to participate in the regional benefits program available to Katalyst employees.

Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional night and weekend hours are expected in support of our global operations.

Travel: 

Occasional travel may be necessary. Mileage for offsite meetings or errands will be reimbursed at the current regional rate.

Required Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a geology or geophysicists 
  • Working proficiency in English, both oral and written.
