What are the responsibilities and job description for the Yoga Instructor position at Karuna Yoga House?
Job Description
Lead engaging Yoga Sculpt classes that blend yoga, strength training, and purposeful movement in a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment. At Karuna Yoga House, we believe movement should help people feel more connected to their bodies, not feel pressured to change their appearance. We are looking for an instructor who honors all bodies, uses empowering and inclusive language, and helps students feel comfortable, accepted, and confident exactly as they are.
Our approach also emphasizes nervous system regulation and mindful movement. We value instructors who create space for students to settle in, connect with their breath, and feel grounded before moving into more active sequences. Longer Savasanas, grounding exercises, and intentional transitions are important parts of our practice.
Responsibilities
- Plan and teach engaging Yoga Sculpt classes that incorporate warm-ups, strength sequences, mindful movement, and cool-downs.
- Begin classes with grounding exercises, breathwork, or other practices that support nervous system regulation and help students arrive in their bodies.
- Incorporate a meaningful final Savasana, allowing ample time for rest, integration, and relaxation.
- Create an inclusive, nonjudgmental environment that honors all body types, abilities, and levels of experience.
- Use empowering, body-neutral language that emphasizes strength, function, self-awareness, and personal experience rather than appearance, weight loss, or changing one's body.
- Offer accessible modifications and encourage students to honor their individual needs without pressure to perform, push beyond their limits, or achieve a particular aesthetic.
- Provide clear, supportive cues and attentive instruction while respecting individual boundaries and student autonomy.
- Maintain a balance between energizing strength work and mindful movement, rest, and recovery.
- Follow studio safety practices and respond appropriately in emergencies, including first aid, CPR, and AED use, as qualified.
- Contribute to class quality and the welcoming, compassionate community at Karuna Yoga House.
Qualifications
- Experience teaching yoga, Yoga Sculpt, group fitness, strength training, barre, Pilates, or related movement practices.
- Ability to adapt instruction for different abilities, experience levels, and individual needs.
- A demonstrated commitment to body inclusivity, body neutrality, and creating a welcoming environment for people of all shapes, sizes, ages, and fitness levels.
- An understanding of or willingness to incorporate nervous system regulation, grounding, breathwork, and restorative practices into classes.
- A teaching approach that prioritizes student well-being, autonomy, and a positive relationship with movement over appearance-based goals.
- Current first aid, CPR, and AED certifications required.
