What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automotive Technician position at Karsten & Moore Auto Group LLC?
Karsten Auto is a used Tesla dealership in Mesa. We buy at auction, recondition in-house, and sell retail — every car we sell goes across our shop floor first. We're adding a fourth technician to the crew.
This is a real wrench job. You'll diagnose and repair the cars before they ever hit the line: suspension, brakes, tires, HVAC, electrical, and our 32-point inspection on every unit. About 30 cars are moving through recon at any given time, so the work is steady, and the pace is real.
You don't need Tesla experience. If you can diagnose and fix a car, we'll teach you the EV side — high-voltage systems, battery health testing, Tesla-specific service. Most of our techs started on gas.
Straight hourly. No flat rate, no book time, no getting sent home when the shop is slow. We supply every tool and piece of equipment — nothing comes out of your pocket. Monday through Friday, 9 to 5. Weekends off.
Compensation:$20 - $26 hourly
Responsibilities:
Run our 32-point inspection on every incoming vehicle and document what passes, what fails, and what needs disclosing
Diagnose and repair suspension and steering — control arms, tie rods, alignment prep
Handle brakes, tires, HVAC/AC, 12V systems, lighting, and window and door hardware
Perform battery health testing and EV system checks (we train you on this)
Repair or stage cosmetic items so cars get photo-ready fast
Log your work from your phone in our digital inspection system — no stacks of paper
Flag safety items and parts needs early so cars don't sit waiting
Keep the shop and the lot clean and organized
Qualifications:
2 years of hands-on automotive repair experience — dealership, independent shop, or fleet
Able to diagnose a problem, not just swap parts
We supply all tools and equipment — you don't need to haul a box in
Valid Arizona driver's license and an insurable driving record (you'll move inventory)
Comfortable using a phone or tablet for inspections and job tracking
ASE certification is a plus, not a requirement
EV or hybrid experience is a plus — we'll train the right person from zero
