ESSENTIAL SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Purchasing & Vendor Relations
- Source, purchase, and forecast inventory of fresh flowers, plants, and hard goods in alignment with seasonal demand and cost-of-goods targets.
- Build and maintain relationships with growers, wholesalers, and distributors to secure consistent product quality and competitive pricing.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing agreements, and delivery schedules to ensure timely, cost-effective procurement.
- Evaluate new suppliers and product lines; stay current with market trends and emerging floral varieties.
- Collaborate with the design and events teams to anticipate product needs for upcoming weddings, holidays, and corporate accounts.
- Develop and manage purchasing budgets, maintaining cost efficiency while ensuring design and quality standards.
- Monitor inventory levels and turnover rates to minimize waste and maximize profitability.
- Oversee regular inventory counts and reconcile invoices to verify accuracy and pricing integrity.
- Partner with leadership to analyze purchasing data and identify opportunities for process improvement and savings.
- Ensure all incoming floral products meet Karin’s Florist’s high standards for freshness, color, and design suitability.
- Communicate proactively with the design team regarding product availability, substitutions, and quality concerns.
- Coordinate closely with operations staff to maintain organized, properly rotated floral coolers and ensure readiness for daily and event orders.
- Serve as the primary liaison between suppliers, designers, and leadership on all floral and hard goods purchasing matters.
- Provide direction to the receiving and processing team regarding shipment schedules and product priorities.
- Support the development of new product offerings, displays, and merchandising concepts that align with market trends and seasonal themes.
- Proven experience in floral buying, procurement, or supply chain management—preferably in a retail or event floral environment.
- Strong negotiation, budgeting, and vendor management skills.
- Deep understanding of floral product quality, seasonal availability, and industry trends.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills with a collaborative, proactive approach.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.
- Familiarity with wholesale flower markets and floral supply vendors.
- Flexible schedule required, including early mornings, weekends, and holiday periods.
