Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD (International Classification of Diseases), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) coding systems to various payers.
- Review medical records and documentation to ensure proper coding with ICD-9, ICD-10, and other relevant coding standards for precise billing.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective communication with insurance companies and patients to facilitate prompt resolution.
- Maintain detailed records of billing activities within Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring data accuracy and confidentiality.
- Collaborate with medical office staff to verify patient information, insurance details, and ensure compliance with medical terminology standards.
- Monitor accounts receivable, perform collections on overdue balances, and generate financial reports to track billing performance.
- Stay current with industry updates related to medical coding regulations, payer policies, and healthcare compliance requirements.
