Position Title Patient Care Assistant (CNA) - Acute Inpatient Units Varies Bell Hospital Position Summary / Career Interest: Patient Care Assistants (PCAs) / Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) Location: Main Campus – 39th & Rainbow, Kansas City, KS Hospitals: Bell Hospital, Cambridge Tower, and Heart Center Status: Full-Time & Part-Time | Benefits Eligible Shift: 12-Hour Shifts with Weekend Requirements Days: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM Schedule Options: Full-Time: 3 shifts per week (36 hours) Part-Time: 2 shifts per week (24 hours) We are seeking compassionate and team-oriented Patient Care Assistants/CNAs to join our outstanding acute care inpatient care teams. These roles support a variety of specialized units across three state-of-the-art hospital facilities. Vacancies vary by department and are subject to change based on operational needs. Potential Department Assignments: Bell Hospital Medical Telemetry/Cystic Fibrosis (BH15) Medical Telemetry (BH41, BH 46) Medical Telemetry/Observation (BH45) Medical Progressive/Medical Telemetry (BH62) Medical Progressive/Pulmonary (BH66) Internal Medicine/Med Surg (BH42) Orthopedics (BH43) Trauma/General Surgery (BH51) General Surgery, Trauma, Internal Medicine (BH53) Organ Transplant & Renal Progressive (BH64) Cambridge Tower Neurology/Epilepsy/ENT (CA6) Neurology/Surgical Oncology (CA7) Internal Medicine (CA8) Hematology & Cellular Therapy (CA9) Bone Marrow Transplant & Acute Leukemia (CA10) Medical Oncology (CA11) Heart Center Cardiothoracic Surgery Progressive Care (HC4) Cardiovascular Progressive (HC5) Family Medicine Progressive Care (HC7) Urology, Vascular, GYN Oncology (HC8) Float Pool The Patient Care Assistant is an unlicensed staff member who is accountable to and completes delegated tasks from the RN in a caring and culturally sensitive manner, with excellent customer service at all times. Demonstrates competence in the areas of critical thinking, interpersonal relationships, and technical skills related to delegated tasks. Provides basic nursing skills, including but not limited to: Vital signs and pulse oximetry; finger stick blood glucose; ADL's; recording intake and output; collecting urine, stool, sputum specimens; apply/remove compression hose; SCDs etc.; emptying drains, urinary catheters, NG tubes, and ostomies; additional skills to meet unit needs. Documents in O2 all tasks, I&O, percentage of meals eaten, etc. Maintains a neat, clutter free and clean patient room and work environment. Maintains a safe patient environment to include High Fall Risk interventions as appropriate for high fall risk patients. This can include but not limited to: hourly rounds; answering call lights in person, promptly for all patients on the unit. Demonstrates proper hand hygiene, standard precautions, and isolation principles. They care for the patient in restraints; including ROM and fluids/toileting; reorienting confused patients; reinforcement of patient/family education regarding fall and safety precautions. Promptly notifies the RN of change in vital signs from baseline or expected result, change in mental status or condition, any breakdown in skin integrity or redness of skin, patient report of pain, any other patient needs, concerns or issues. Must complete other duties as assigned. Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
