The Family Mentor provides one-on-one support to clients by offering

guidance and support to people who are struggling with substance abuse.

The Family Mentor works closely with a variety of professionals to

connect parents to treatment resources and provides for the safety and

well-being of the children and families by delivering culturally

competent services to the unique needs of the family.

START (Sobriety Treatment and Recovery Teams) is a family-centered,

collaborative intervention for families with Child Protective Services

(CPS) involvement and children 0-5 years of age, who are impacted by

parental substance use. START services are provided to each individual

and to the family as a whole, focused on strengthening the relationship

between the parents and children.

**Essential Functions**

  • Provides for the safety, stability and well-being of children and

families during the referral period

  • Delivers culturally competent services using a strengths-based

approach to children and families consistent with the evidence-based

practice models

  • Meets DCF timelines to connect with the family and facilitate the

initial family meeting

  • Engages and works in partnership with the case manager and family to

complete assessments

  • Responds to calls and client emergencies as needed including being

on-call and working some weekends and public holidays as necessary

  • Meets with clients at least once a week to offer one-on-one support
  • Develops recovery plans, coping methods and rehabilitation services

with the client

  • Facilitates treatment assessments and referrals and provides client

support in arranging for medical appointments, counseling, support

groups and other resources as needed

  • Monitors the client\'s behavior, schedule, medication and activities

and reports any unusual behavior, conflicts or recovery deviations

to the relevant professionals

  • Provides transportation and resources and coordinates community

support services as needed

  • Job may require the employee to be able to regularly drive to

various DCCCA locations and other business locations throughout the

day or night as required

  • Other duties as assigned

**Education, Experience, and Licensure**

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Must have lived experience with substance abuse, treatment and

recovery with a minimum of two years of continuous recovery

  • Requires knowledge of recovery resources and has experience

interacting with individuals seeking recovery

  • Personal experience with child welfare preferred
  • Must possess a valid state Driver\'s License, in force automobile

liability insurance, and maintain a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) that

meets organization\'s insurability standard as defined by DCCCA

policy. Availability of reliable transportation is required for this

position.
