Position Summary
Museum Store Sales Associate
Pay Rate: $15.00/hour
Schedule: Variable shifts; store operates 7 days a week
- This position follows a three-week rotational schedule: there are three weekly schedules (shift A, B, C then repeat) that the employee rotates through including Saturday and Sunday shifts, averaging 18-20 hours per week.

- All working hours fall between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM
Position Overview
The Sales Associate is essential to our commitment to anticipating and meeting customer needs with proactive service. Reporting directly to the Retail Coordinator, this role includes operating the TAM point-of-sale system, overseeing inventory management, addressing customer inquiries, resolving issues efficiently, and ensuring the store remains a warm and inviting space for all visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Process sales, returns, and exchanges using TAM retail software
- Open and close the store, including handling bank deposits and change orders
- Greet and assist customers in person or by phone
- Address customer inquiries and resolve issues related to purchases and returns
- Stock shelves and organize merchandise displays
- Demonstrate product knowledge and highlight key features and benefits
- Collaborate with the Retail Coordinator on merchandising and inventory placement
- Escalate unresolved customer concerns to the Retail Coordinator
- Monitor merchandise security and request assistance when needed
- Communicate with store control, facility protection, and information services
- Foster positive relationships with coworkers, volunteers, and affiliated staff
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and proactive problem solving
- Maintain a professional appearance and a positive and enthusiastic attitude when interacting with customers, members, visitors, KSHS or Foundation employees or any members of the public.
Minimum Qualifications
A high school diploma and a minimum of one year of relevant experience are required for this role. Strong organizational abilities, along with excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, are essential. Candidates must be capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Proficiency in problem-solving, decision-making, and basic technical skills are also necessary. The ideal candidate will be personable and confident in engaging with customers one-on-one. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 30 lbs., climb step stools, stand for extended periods, and perform basic math functions to accurately balance the cash register and provide correct change.
