The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is seeking an experienced database administrator or laboratory scientist to join the Kansas Health & Environment Laboratories' Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) team.The ideal candidate will have a background in LIMS administration, laboratory science, and be familiar with public health and environmental testing.If you've ever wanted to use your skill set to help protect the public while working on making more efficient workflows and modernizing data systems, then this is the place for you!
As Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) Administrator, provide management of the data that is maintained by the LIMS by ensuring that LIMS is working on a daily basis. Perform troubleshooting of retrieval of data as needed.Maintain knowledge of the laboratory testing capabilities and workflows by learning lab processes in all areas in order to provide input on best practices for setting up analysis codes in the LIMS and to assist in troubleshooting of LIMS. Create/manage data interfaces between instruments and LIMS for auto upload of instrument data into LIMS.Maintain current knowledge of SQL and Oracle PL/SQL programming so that advanced workflows and calculations can be used in the configuration. Update workflows and calculations and create new workflows and calculations as testing needs change.Perform updates and development as requested and approved. Develop electronic interfaces with health information exchanges. Develop custom queries and reports to support both outside programs as well as laboratory staff. Maintain the queries by ensuring they are working correctly and update as needed and approved.
As LIMS Administrator, serve as primary point of contact with KDHE laboratory personnel for questions or assistance. Provide training and general application support for internal and external clients. Responsible for the day to day management and administration of the LIMS by ensuring all LIMS processes and jobs are running successfully. Ensure that reports are being delivered in a timely manner.Serve as the primary application support resource and point of contact with the ChemWare support desk. Work on LIMS analysis code projects with the ChemWare support desk in order to provide new analysis codes and analysis code revisions quickly and accurately. Work with OITS and agency policies and procedures to ensure that the LIMS application is backed up and operational at all times.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Train staff members to serve as back-up LIMS administrators for basic and routine work processes to assure that LIMS maintains maximal up time and prompt resolution of issues as they arise. Create and maintain LIMS process guides.Create and maintain SOPs related to LIMS.Provide training to all new staff members on the basics of LIMS processes. Assist unit managers in training external clients on pre-login processes and report retrieval processes.
Provide general computer support and technical assistance for users in the laboratories in conjunction with OITS. This may include but not be limited to software installation, computer installation and troubleshooting, local and network printer support as well as some network troubleshooting and support.

- Two years of experience with SQL database. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
