Position: Housing Advocacy Coordinator - Kansas Coalition against Sexual and Domestic Violence

Responsible to:
Director of Housing and Economic Justice


Primary Responsibility:
Work statewide with domestic violence and sexual assault advocacy programs (DV/SA programs) to reduce the disparate impact of co-occurring domestic and sexual violence and homelessness to improve housing and economic stability for survivors. The project will serve survivors who are homeless due to fleeing DV, SA, stalking, or dating violence. Continue collaborative relationships with Kansas Statewide Homeless Coalition and local housing providers and participate on committees related to housing and homelessness. Work with DV/SA programs and allied professionals to strengthen and formalize their collaborations with local housing providers.


Specific duties:

  • Co - Coordinate KCSDV’s Rapid Rehousing (RRH) program.
  • Frequent in-state travel to various locations, including trips that may require overnight stays to provide services to survivors in the RRH program.
  • Assess survivors at program entry to jointly develop a strengths-based, goal-driven action plan that promotes permanent housing and self-sufficiency in the future.
  • Work with survivors to locate and secure appropriate housing, assist with landlord negotiations, rental applications, and leases when needed.
  • Support survivors to ensure services are individualized, culturally relevant, survivor-focused, trauma-informed, racially equitable, and otherwise appropriate.
  • Gather and become familiar with information and resources from national technical assistance providers on the impacts of homelessness and economic abuse on survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
  • Ensure quality standards for housing placement and supportive services are met and sustained.
  • Become familiar with housing laws and regulations that impact the project and survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
  • Evaluate and implement culturally responsive, trauma-informed financial literacy/ empowerment curricula for use by DV/SA programs.
  • Provide technical assistance to DV/SA programs and housing providers related to best practices when working with survivors of domestic and sexual violence experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity.
  • Maintain records for each survivor participating in RRH program
  • Utilize a Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) comparable database to ensure accurate and consistent data collection and analysis for required project documentation and aggregate reporting.
  • Support DV/SA programs to increase landlord engagement in their communities.
  • Develop a referral network of services and support for survivors and DV/SA program advocates.
  • Assist with other KCSDV duties as assigned.

Employment Status:
Fulltime (36 hours/wk.), nonexempt (hourly)


Salary: $55,000. We know that the practice of salary negotiation can contribute to pay inequities, this starting salary is non-negotiable. Our compensation structure—as well as our approach to future compensation adjustments—is transparent to all employees.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Preferred:
Previous experience advocating for survivors of domestic and sexual violence or knowledge of homelessness and housing resources. Ability to work collaboratively with systems and professionals to impact responses and programming as it intersects with the needs of survivors experiencing homelessness. Ability to develop materials and train on topics relevant to this position. Proven writing skills. Ability to work as a team. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to travel and have means of own transportation. Bilingual preferred.


Location:
This position offers a collegial working environment in our offices in downtown Topeka, KS. with a hybrid in-person/remote work schedule. Remote work is set for most staff as Mondays and Fridays, with weekly office hours as 8:30am-5:00pm (Monday-Thursday) and 8:30am-12:30pm (Fridays).
